Thats my collection so far, they are fantastic little sculpts and paint up beautifully!
-
Great painting. Keep it up.
-
They are very good - well done :-*
-
Great job! Would you share your tiger stripe recipe?
-
Thanks guys its much appreciated, they are a joy to paint :)
mjkerner
The base colour is vallejo US dark green washed with army painter dark tone. One dry reinstate the US dark green, high light with Russian uniform green ww2 from vallejo. Then its just a case of painting in the black stripes and careful high lighting with dark grey. Then a steady hand and small brush using pastol green from vallejo to add the lighter coloured stripes. Hope that helps
Thanks again for the comments and feedback guys 😊
-
Thanx Russ!
-
Those are fantastic!
-
Thanks guys, I'm adding a few bits of scenery to my collection. Let's see if I can transform the big bag of aquarium plants into some sort of jungle ;)
-
Very nice work. I am certainly going to have a look at that Tiger Stripe scheme.
-
Very nice work.
-
That is a very good start into another addiction ;)
-
Thanks gus, I'm pottering around with a few bits of scenery at the minute and my first squad of VC! I stalled on the VC but I think I may have it cracked this time.
Very nice work. I am certainly going to have a look at that Tiger Stripe scheme.
let us know how you get on, it's always nice to know if it helped :)

I've finished up my Empress Miniatures Australian infantry conversions, my greenstuff skills are not the best so thankfully these needed the bare minium of sculpting to convert them into US Special Forces for my Vietnam collection.

I'm happy with the end result, they might not be perfect but I'm happy with the end result
-
Great conversions, the GS pockets look spot on. I was thinking about trying something similar, but went with the recon marines instead.

Thanks Ash its much appreciated, using the figures with the M16s just seemed to beg to be converted.
Your conversions are pretty spot on my friend , my 2nd squad of recon marines are just waiting for me paint them in ERDL rather then the tiger stripe I went for in the first place when they first came out.
-
Going to have a go at converting a couple of the NVA figures into Montagnards to finish up my second SOG team.
Just trying to work out how to make extra US water bottles...

Its been a long day already I'm sure i replied to this already! But for the water bottles have a look at the NAM stowage set. I'm not sure how many are in it but it may help. There are also the plastic US WW2 infantry from Warlord Games, they have separate water bottles in the kit. It might be worth seeing if any one as any spare they could let you have. They may be a tad bigger but I reckon they would still work.
-
Deja Vue lol
Great work. :-*
Remind me when you next order and I will check the spares box for canteens ;)

It's been a while since I last posted anything but here goes to be honest ive forgotten how to even post here so please bear with me

They do look good. Just watched Danger Close last night, and it had that DShK in action...
-
Those guys look superb, great colour choices.
-
outstanding painting!
-
Any chance you could share what colours were used, as these look so good they deserve to be emulated?
-

thank you, the film is a great watch, and yes the DShK is absolutely animal of a gun.
Those guys look superb, great colour choices.
thanks Ash, I enjoy the variety in uniforms. I've always try not to stick to closely to ranks of uniforms looking the same.
outstanding painting!
tomrommel1 thank you its very much appreciated
Any chance you could share what colours were used, as these look so good they deserve to be emulated?
Hang Tuah thank you, the green for the uniforms is reflective green from Vallejo. Mixed with a yellow green to highlight. Although I do mix different colours in to add that bit more variety, the light brown uniforms are basecoated khaki mixed with a lighter colour but not white. Off whites are the way to go, hope that helps.
Thanks guys for the feedback, hopefully I will get a few more finished soon .
-
I have added a few more recruits to my collection, this time it's the turn of the medics. Once again they are beautiful little sculpts from Empress miniatures and they certainly look the part (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3cDFdFEgAtHyfzn1KWhI1ZKaat_uPpnGv2j5_Yie8ZM6_stHxs1hGJhL50LAbH6Zlx5GA3BDRcYZvDsk7VFz2VsAsus1sEs02TGXw_yTGRsm7whsQy_-wPAlBhvie76JL3ZG01Yq7MoprbMi4THx3ZfcLA6Q5NYx0JmFfAoA1DrCIvL-DE42W4nycRf6k/s3417/20230829_152614.jpg)

very nice additions :-*

The contrast between the uniform and the helmet is very successful.
What green color do you use for this US uniform?
-
Thanks guys it's much appreciated
tomrommel thank you your collection is a true inspiration The contrast between the uniform and the helmet is very successful.
What green color do you use for this US uniform?
The base colour is vallejo US dark green, I mix in Russian uniform green to highlight. It also works mixing in other colours as long as it isn't enough to alter the base colour, khaki works well if you want the uniform to look a bit more washed out and faded. The helmet base colour I mixed a batch ages ago and I can't quite remember the exact colours used I know vallejo intermediate green was one but I can't quite remember what the other one was, try mixing in uniform green from vallejo. Hope that helps if not just give us a shout and I will try and help best I can.
-
Lovely job on those medics. Well done!
-
Thanks CapnJim it's the mortar team up next :)
-
Those medics are great and will add a lot to the table!

nice mortar team :-*
-
Love that flag on the loaders flak jacket.
-
Lovely stuff !
-
Thanks guys, I'm enjoying painting these guys. They are stunning little figures, I really can't see my obsession with these guys ending any time soon. I'm looking at the M113's I've got and crewing them up for my ARVN forces. So I'm guessing that's going to be my next additions, but knowing my butterfly mind anything is possible.
-
Im a bit behind with updating my new additions but here they are, more wonderous minis from Empress miniatures (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBy7bn1B35RZ9zfeJQdoBdAIcm1wQbDXgsAFhE3w51JvC-BxJFHp3fT_473X4Dk-OycO8q9yoLKeMugnJJb8401MDPtCAHWWiP_CrrkVUAupUpRiNxLdwB30to3MYK62TLmqwx3xFE9PXC23TUOW5V627NW1JAgx5Vj-CBpkMBA85wdf_XlFxhzTOsXpvu/s4000/20231022_150412.jpg)

Thanks guys I'm enjoying painting these guys massively, I started on my Vietnamese civilians a while back so hopefully they will be finished sooner rather then later.

The latest addition to my vietnam collection, a few more figures from Empress Miniatures. Every collection needs a bit of local flavour and this time its a few civilians or are they (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPDiKx9s3D_-CtGMdeu-iUwxS3jlEDBfIBb5jrJHe3o51IBGTJ2VuRIxGEcdSKTNHcktWChf8Da_pYCuAIt4i1S5GXZ1WlErvbMYOlM8_T65bGU8kuEWibwXA7Lmfsgjy63vPbhevof-f9hIviofZsbXQcyTy8oy3dM2YcAwWBGvcJwiGGFr5dwOXOcOA9/s3864/20231209_161930.jpg) trouble comes knocking and soon they are armed and ready to defend themselves and their village

I like the pairing of the civilian and armed versions of the same figure. Great idea - perfect fit for Vietnam! Who's Charlie...? :?

Those Empress civilians are excellent - love the paint jobs and the extra detailing on the bases
:)

Thanks Mike, I really do like the pairing of the two armed and unarmed. Despite the fact I don't game I can see the advantage of using them in games.

Thanks AKULA i couldn't help myself with the figure with the Hoe. It only seemed right to try and do something different with the base.

Those civilians/VC look grand! Those figures are currently waiting patiently in my long and winding painting queue...

Thanks CapnJim these are just a few of the Vietnam figures I've got sat in the lead pile or should I say the pile of shame!

Nicely done! Those look great. :-* :-*

Thank you its much appreciated, I'm hoping to add a couple of small vehicles next.

I’ve added a Migthy Mite, absolutely lovely little model from Empress (https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhv8Q4v8jkMFbudJkrAsUBZuldb4PmQx076UqmH3vjFT7-Jh1DihWiOaQ_cmWE7W3aJLHlTg_X79YV6xP2jfO2YYdX0cj5iyCHapbdhf2ESAZqSLto4Dlly7QaKZvt8MM5uocsbW76T8PgiMTgs3DZ2-UEVcH4KTZa3LByZ7m99zpjOz7PGTPg44UpZhvKE/s2711/20231220_172645.jpg)
And a Recoiless Gun to add that little bit extra support

That is very nice work.
-
Lovely work!
Usually I'm not a fan of the jewelled headlights thing but it really works here, accentuating the cute Japanese cartoon look of the Mighty Mite.

Thanks Carlos, they just suited the look of the Mite. It certainly was a funky looking vehicle like you almost a cartoony look about it.
That is very nice work.
Thanks you it's much appreciated, the mule is next. Hopefully it won't take much longer to get it finished.
-
Looks blooming marvellous!
-
They look grand! Well done!

Thanks CapnJim, the Mighty Mites certainly a wierd looking vehicle, but it makes a nice change rather then having all Mutts ferrying men around. The Recoiless Gun is a great addition, it wouldn't of been right not to add one.
Looks blooming marvellous!
Thanks Sparrow, they both turned out real nice. The collection is expanding nicely.

I always thought it looked like an M151 and a Land Rover had a baby... :D

That's a great looking model
Good work on the paint job also, particularly like the way you've down the head lamps, might have to replicate that myself :D

Thank you, it painted up nicely once I got started with it. I've spent most of my time on infantry figures so it was nice for a change! It also inspired me to get the Mule and Recoiless Gun done.

Your right, fascinating little vehicle! It makes a nice change from the Mutt.

So now the Mule

Your best bet might be some of the 3D prints, I've seen some more unusual stuff 3D printed so it may be worth a look.

Good work on the Mule :)

I've still a few more to paint but I'm hoping it gives me enough civilians to add abit of character to my collection. As always more info and photos on my blog

Nice work on those civvies.
Apologies if you’ve mentioned it elsewhere, but are they from Empress?

Very nice.

Yes they are Empress Miniatures, I can't say I've seen anyone else who makes both armed and unarmed versions of the same figures.
Very nice.
Thank you, I just need to try and get some better photos of my full collection.
-
Those most recent civilians are indeed nice-looking...well done!
-
Very nice indeed. :-*
Just as a note, if you are doing more peasant civvies then steer away from white. White is the traditional colour of mourning in Vietnam. That's not to say it's not worn, it most certainly is, many female school uniforms feature white ao dais and today most things go but 50+ years ago it would be uncommon in traditional peasant pyjamas, the ao ba ba. Rural folk being more conservative and superstitious as a rule.

Very nice additions to your collection

Thanks for that, Carlos. I'll keep that in mind when my Empress civilians make their way to the head of my painting line...

It's took awhile but I've finally managed to add some additions to my collection, I seem to have struggled to back into things but here goes, most of my collection are on single figure bases for my infantry but I decided to add a few bases with a bit more character and multiple figures. I'm hoping it worked, I ha e updated my bag with a bit more info and photos. Please feel free to rake a look.

If all goes well I should be adding some more stuff real soon.

Nice! Look forward to seeing more... :-*

Beautiful painting. A really great project.
-
Thanks guys, I'm working my way through more additions although progress is slower then I hoped for.
-
They look great, particularly like the group of three behind the fallen tree.
-
They do indeed. Lovely paintowrk and basing.
-
Thanks guys, I wanted the appearance of taking cover/getting ready for a firefight. The poses of the figures certainly lend themselves to it nicely.
-
Those guys look good too!
