Anyone aware of any good offers on these at the moment?

In the UK perhaps?  In the US they're already rare and I don't think I've ever seen a single sale on them stateside... :(

Rymans do a discount on bulk buying and free postage over £40.
That was the best deal I could find when I looked earlier in the year.
Think the A4 size ones we all love are less than £4 if you buy 9

Just paid $11 each for the 4 litre size at Staples in the USA. Bought half a dozen. Lined with 3mm magnetic sheet @ $2 per sheet. Also bought a half dozen of the 2.5 litre size for $15 each, and lined the bottom of the compartment tray with magnetic business card material. We use a lot of steel fender washers or other steel bases here, which is why we line the bottom of these boxes with magnetic sheets. NOT a cheap solution.

Just shop around but check the postage as some of the slightly more expensive boxes have little to no postage costs.

I recently got a few (18, 9 and 1.8ltr) from Hobbycraft.

I got a good deal on 4L RUB's on eBay, however the "24 hour express delivery" took about 2 weeks.
£24.99 for 4 x 4 Litre.

I have picked up some of the A4 boxes for around $8.50-9 a pop at Office Depot.  Not a terrible price, but nothing I'd consider a deal.  Sadly Office Depot only carries maybe a dozen sizes of RUBs so you don't have much choice.

That’s the rub (see what I did there  :D), most retailers only have a small selection of what’s available.

Thanks for the input, everyone. There’s some ideas to follow up there.

Not sure if good at £4.25 a pop but I tend to scout B&m stores who stock them sporadically

I’ve bought them direct from RUB in the past - you need a fair sized order to get free postage.

I saw B&Q had a big selection a few weeks ago - but didn’t pay that much attention to prices.

In the UK, best bet is to keep an eye on the Rymans sales, they often do bulk buy boxes at good prices, and £40 or over is free postage. I got two sets of their nine x 4 litre box deals at one point last year, at around £3 per box.

When we moved house, I had to pack up the lego collection and RUB seemed like the ideal solution. I bought enough of the huge 84 litre ones that not only was the delivery free, but they were dropped off direct from the factory on pallets...

Regarding storing minis in RUBs... I glued magentic sheets in mine and generally use washers as bases or glue magnets inside bases. This works great for home use, but what has been everyone’s experience with using RUBs to transport minis across town to the game shop and back? What about if moving houses? Do you trust these in the hands of movers?

That depends. I've had some magnabased 15mm AK-47 infantry bases move around a bit in the back of my car, but they're so light that no damage was done. I wouldn't risk it with individually based 25mm metal figures. Foam trays for them.

I'd never trust movers with my painted figures no matter how they were packed or based.

I do much the same for my storage Jack, except I build foam board trays with a few dividers in them to provide more structure. Never had a problem transporting figures to shows and a recent house move had to shift 200 RUBs for a 5 hour journey and longer term storage.  No problems with the removal chaps who were very professional (firms may vary) and only 1 box had any obvious figure movement - fortunately no damage.

A layer of bubble wrap between box lid and figures was also useful I think.

I suppose you could fill the RUB with foam pieces or puffed rice if you have to use movers.  I would lean towards moving them myself personally.   :)

If you had to trust movers, I think I'd put the RUBs inside normal boxes...and then consider dumping packing peanuts inside the rubs to help mitigate anything shaking loose.
