looking Great Grimm.  :-*
what is your secret for doing the blue jeans? Mine always look either like just blue pants or streaked blue pants. Is that a Cars "Ramone" I see in the background, and how do they size up?  8)

Fantastic work! I'll add a third request for the blue jeans recipe - I have some cowboys on the painting table, and I've been putting off starting them for just that reason - my blue jeans just look like blue pants. Yours are great!
I have another question too, Grimm - what scale/type are the cars? Are they 1:43? They look perfect!
And finally, I'm looking forward to seeing this project progress. I joined the forum too late to see the development of your brilliant Innsmouth board (and minis!), although I enjoyed discovering it after and reading it from start to finish. This time, I'll be following things from the beginning.
Looking forward to lots more - and I love those greasers. The muscled guy with the chain around his fist is fantastic, and the chick (that's fifties talk, isnt' it?) is great.
More! More! More!

Grimm, you made a wrong decision! I will tell your true name! The good decision is "The thing" for .45 Adventures. You talked over three month about it, so it is the right decision. The stars and you decided it. Not these rock'a'billy-shit...
It is so planned by our miniature-God like the fact, that I should do KKBB or WeirdWar II with the projectX-Stuff

Hi Guys I am back from a BBQ with my sister and I am a bit ....  but I try to explain how I did the jeans color .
It is very simple I use vallejo model color  022 Ultramarine Blue and mix in a bit Black .
Paint the jeans in that color it looks like a grey blue .
After that mix in a bit white and paint the first high light .
Then mix in more white and paint the last high light .
thats all .
The Black give the blue the grey look of jeans .

I have another question too, Grimm - what scale/type are the cars? Are they 1:43? They look perfect!
I didn´t know these are the pixar disney cars and I didn´t know the scale.
The Hot Rod is from Mc Donalds Hot wheels but it looks right in scale .

I need more cars so did anny one have pictures with 50ths cars and figures ??

Is that a Cars "Ramone" I see in the background, and how do they size up?
yes it is and it size up very good if you like cars a bit smaller than they are in realety.

cheers Grimm and BTW many thanks guys  :-*

Grimm -

Looks fantastic. Awesome stuff, as always.

I know you've already decided on your scenery, but you know what would be another great set for a game like this? A Drive-In Movie theatre!

Any way you do this, it's going to be great. Please keep us updated with pictures. I wish I could join one of your games!

Ah thanks Bugsda I am a bit sad that I diden´t manage to paint some good looking tattoos on the figures but some day...... ::)

So one week is over and it is time for something new
In Atomic cafe these will also be Zombies as a playable gang but the figures are not out till now  :'( .
These Zombies have different ``ganger``  some are farster some will blow up when they die (again) and some ....... (check the brigade games forum  ;) )

In my setting I will use Zombies as a encounter also and I will use the stereotype zombie from the zombie gang ,the Shambler .
The shambler is a Zombie who is infected with the bacteria for some time and in my eyes he is the normal movie zombie .
The diner ,I will build, will store some of the shambler Zombies .

take a deep breath now and hope the zombie Masters  AKULA and Pappa Midnight like the painting

the figures are from Cold War and you can get them by Brigade Games also .

don´t miss the Michigan State Bowling League next week
now I have to stard with the dinner  :)

1950's Music to drive your players up the wall.  >:(

1950 White Christmas - Bing Crosby
1951 Come on-a My House - Rosemary Clooney
1952 Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
1953 You, You, You - Ames Brothers
1954 That's Amoré - Dean Martin

I love the Ronettes, but they are absolutely 1960s. You could hardly get more 60s than them, unless you gave them Merseyside accents, filled them full of LSD and landed them on the Moon in three Mark II Minis painted red, white and blue.  lol

(But I'd much rather listen to Ronnie than all that Hillbilly music.)

Grimm,

What kind of critters can you run in this game. I see zombies and know it does the post apocalyptic genre... but what else?

Anything in the 50's genre movies?

Them? (giant ants/spiders)

Mutants?

What else?

How long does a "typical" game take to play out?

Etc...

Etc...

Etc...

SIKU is a german maunfactuer.

They are uncommon in shops in the UK as they are more expensive than matchbox type stuff as they are larger. I don't have one, sorry.

JADA are listed as 1/64.. but they are larger I have found some in ASDA but there are none at the moment, Ebay is your best bet.

JADA Battlemachine 57 chevy with Paul Hicks sculpt If you keep the lowrider look they may need mounting on a base.

Doc Hudson and a FULL THROTTLE 1:64 FOOSE 1970 MONTE CARLO OVERHAULIN' again bigger than 1/64 they do a couple from pre 57 the wheels have been replace to get rid of the low rider look,

What kind of critters can you run in this game. I see zombies and know it does the post apocalyptic genre... but what else?

How long does a "typical" game take to play out?

You will be able to run anything from the 50s sci fi movies. We'll have rules for THEM, Tarantula, a giant Mantis. There will be Mutants as well (in fact, I KNOW that some are being sculpted right now and I think you'll get a kick out of the first batch). The Brute that is already out, gets stronger the more he gets wounded (up until he dies that is).

The main rulebook, out in November, will contain a lot of different gangs to start. Or you can mix and match different models from the gangs into one gang.

It's hard to say how long a typical game would take as I don't have a baseline for it. Like any kind of points based game, the more points you have, the longer it will take to play. A three gang unit is about 500 points. Two players each with 500 points would probably finish in under 2 hours.

At the last convention I ran this, I had about 11 people each with about 150 points and including teaching the rules the game took about 3 hours.

Hey, Rich.

This is one of my favorite 50s movie...

The Giant Gila Monster! - A giant Gila Monster is terrorizing a small community, killing at ramdom, knocking over barns and buildings. When the monster threatens devour Chance Winstead's little sister, he attempts to destroy the beast with a hot rod full of nitroglycerin.

It came out in 1959.

Can your rules handle this, my good man?

They will indeed be able to handle it.

Of course, whether Chance or the Gila Monster wins is left up to the luck of the dice. :)

I love the 1950's and I was really psyched for this range but after ordering the initial release from Brigade back on July 10th I'm still waiting for my pack of 'Local Cops'.

I've emailed a few times but the only response I've ever managed to get was on the Atomic Cafe Forum, where I was told he would look into it.Since then nothing.

I still get Brigade Games adverts sent to me though.

It's left me pretty hacked off, everyone else seems to have no problem ordering.  >:(

Shame, because Paul Hicks has created some fantastic figures for the range.

Great paint jobs on the figures.

Actually, there is an easy explanation. As most know I had to relocate my outsourced casting suddenly from London War Room In January Due to the sudden shutdown of their business because Vince decided to get out of the business all together. That necessitated me taking a week off from work (yes I have a day job) to drive with a friend from NJ to Mississippi (around 1200 miles one way) to pick up my 550 molds and purchase the casting equipment.

Then I needed to get set up up here. My brother wanted to pick up the casting as he needed the supplemental income. While the casting equipment is old and there are problems with it running some molds with thinner and smaller parts and getting good castings each spin, my broither just wasn't keeping up nor giving me what I needed on a regular and timely basis as was our arrangement.

Long story, short. He quit on me a few weeks ago requiring me to prepare my garage and relocate the equipment again. I have made the changes to my schedule I need to produce what I need to keep up (I think anyway!) However, I have been working through the backlog of items I was owed on my production list. I should be able to get the ragged cops cast this weekend.

Unfortunately, when faced with this type of supplier situation there is little one can do.

Fortunately, as long as the molds produce what I need I should have no problem going forward getting backorders out of Brigade/Rattrap/Parroom items in a week.

I have also decided to purchase a new casting machine so I can make the most productive use of my time. I can't wait for the new one to arrive but in the meantime I use the other.

So accept my apologies.

Apology accepted,

I don't mind waiting however long it takes. I had no way of knowing what was going on at your end so to me it just felt that I was being ignored.

Now that I know what's going on there's no problem.

(And now I don't have to worry about making future orders. ;D)

Now, where did I put my DVD of 'THEM'?

And how about some U.S.troops with SMGs? (For close quarter combat against mutants in the abandoned subways)

With all those tough greaser teens, incectoid mantis, bowling teams, high-school zombies, & military... you need some disbelieving, donut munching coppers to die hideously when they finally check out those stupid kid's stories...

This website seems to be a good source of what type of die cast 50's cars are out there to supplement your game. I would not recommend buying them here... too expensive! But, it might give you a search-able means to find a cheaper alternative somewhere else.

I don't care how super duper Super Duper Man is... he better watch his proximity to that prickly cactus!!!

Diaper + Cactus = One Hell of an OUCH!!

Excellent work, Grimm. Excellent.

Here comes the Army.....

As a few of you know I find it very hard to get the right color for the troopers and after a few trys I decided to go my own way with the colors.
I mean as Operator 5 says the game is post-nuclear war and the  NDF is in disarray with no supply chain. They will wear whatever uniforms they have available.
So I use some mix uniform colors .
After all I think that the troopers can be recogniseable as GI's ,or not ?

314th Federal Defense Force ready to kick ass of atomic insects .
As you see all nits have a MIB .

Fantastic work, Grimm, and I think you did just fine with the color/color variations. No two uniform lots are ever exactly the same during that period, anyway.

I am seriously tempted to get some of the Federal troops in gasmasks, myself. I'm hoping they do unit size releases of them.

As usual I'm am totally blown away with your work! But, Grimm, you have far surpassed yourself on this. The thought, the work, and the unbelievable attention to detail... far above and beyond anything I have seen you do to date. And that is saying a LOT!

Totally in awe here, sir.

What was the scale of those cars again? Every time I see them I start second guessing my decision to go with the 1:43 scale.

Grimm, it looks absolutely beautiful! I love the details around the garage especially, they are extremely characterful!

What was the scale of those cars again? Every time I see them I start second guessing my decision to go with the 1:43 scale.

UI belioeve they are 1:50 Hot Wheels (maybe some Jada too), they mix quite ok with 1:43's so there's not much to worry about ;)

I never know If I can catch the spiret of a gaming board before some other people say there opinion about it .

about the cars
most of them are Disney ``cars`` from the movie (diden´t kow the scale :( ),the others  are 1/72 Jada cars and old hot Wheels ,all a bit small but since I buy my first Space Marine Rihno (long way ago) I like vehicles a bit smaller .

@Fugazi  do it now ! whay not ? I would be happy to play on your table  ;)

Hi Grimm, very nice board!

I was just wondering: I just re-warched Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on DVD while being ill some days ago, and just opposite of the gate leading to Hangar 51 is seen a sign: 'Atomic Café' (I suspect, that is where Rich got the name for the game from) - shouldn't you have used that for the diner?  ;)

- And don't let Plynkes tell you what music to use (I am a big fan of both 50's and 60's music myself)  ;)

I think I'll have to get the rules at some point (I need to start hobbying a bit again, soon, to have something to keep me going in between troubles with work, living space, and kids....).

I think that the term Atomic Cafe comes from a film by the same title.  The film title comes from an actual cafe.

The film is a collection of clips during the early years of "Life with the bomb."  These clips come from public service announcements, army training films, and, of course, educational films shown at school.

The scenes at Camp Desert Rock (in Nevada) are absolutely priceless.  Remember - "When not close enough to be killed, the atomic bomb is one of the most beautiful sights in the world."

There were a few 'Atomic Cafe's' knocking around in the fifties.... the sign in the AC film was from an establishment in Arco, Idaho (and appeared in the 1954 film 'The power of the atom'). The Indiana Jones one is thought to be a made up sign as nobody can recall one in Nevada. Los Alamos, NM, is often called 'Atomic City'.

The film Atomic Cafe is on you tube and makes for good viewing.

Ok in Atomic cafe the players can hunt for supply makers.
the makers can use to restock fuel and ammo what the gangs lost over the game turns ,I will use the makers also to edit monsters to the game  ;) .
As a few know I am not a big fan of paper counters on the gamingboard so I make a set of my own makers for te game .
hope you like them

Terrific cards, Grimm.

I hope you don't mind if I offer some proofreading?

Major Mutant - "tabel" should be "table".

"Redzombie" - should be "Radzombie" (unless he's gone communist).  A full stop is needed after "now".  "Away fom" should be "away from".

Giant Mantis - "place two giant mantis on the tabel" should be "place two giant mantises on the table".

Hot Rod Parts Supply - "gereaser" should be "greaser".

Dust Devil - "placs" should be "place".

"Strong liqueur" - should be "strong liquor".  "Liquor" (pronounced "licker") is a general, if old-fashioned, word for any alcoholic drink.  A "liqueur" (pronounced "lih'cure") is a sweetened dessert spirit, or, oddly enough, alcohol when included in a chocolate.  Don't ask me why: I may speak this language, but I didn't invent it!

I hope that Tactica goes well.

It would be pretty dopey of Lon not to let you use it.   :)

Great effect.  Did you hand paint it or somehow do it in Photoshop?

maby you are right but I think it is a good act to ask before I use the street billboard .

I use comic live and then re-paint it a bit .
BTW I do all the stuff with comic life  ;)

You beauty! The usual brilliance! I need to get back onto this, but totally consumed by DWMG and a new (hopefully commercially available) mystery project at present!

Where are the sandbags from BTW?

I don't know if I should be asking this but what is that pink, long thing with a knob on the end one of the girls is holding in her hand?

I get the feeling that Grimm took some "artistic license" with the baseball bat.
