Can anyone tell me the type and paint schemes on Landing Craft used at Guadalcanal? I have seen that only the LVT-1 was used there and only for logistics. I'm assuming the LCM3 was in use by then but I'm seeking info on the LCP varieties in use for that campaign and the paint schemes on them. I suspect they were in a Grey of some sort but I would like confirmation.
I'm building a USMC force for Chain of Command and have ordered some LCP (R)s and LCP (L)s on spec.

A quick web search for 'guadalcanal landing craft image' turned these up:
https://www.google.com/search?q=guadalcanal+landing+craft+image&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiHyeDpv9_uAhWEiFMKHdyJDV4Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=guadalcanal+landing+craft+image&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQDDoCCAA6BggAEAUQHlDsXFjwoAFgl7MBaABwAHgAgAGEAYgB1RCSAQQyOS4ymAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=u-kjYMf_GYSRzgLck7bwBQ&bih=579&biw=1280&client=firefox-b-1-d#imgrc=2Zswd-CDmsGSrM
Some of the photos are identified as being specifically from Guadalcanal. Every craft I see in the photos looks like its painted Navy grey.

Pete I would paint the LVT's for use in Saipan or Bougainville .
The Mk 1 was pretty crappy by all accounts

Thanks Zippy, my google-fu must have been off when I looked before. I agree Navy Grey, means my grey primer will be close enough.
Truscott T, Not worried about the LVT-1 so much as it was more the supply type vessel, I am looking more for the troop type transport so my Barrage Miniatures purchases will be appropriate. I can always grab a pack of the OTP landing craft which is LCVP, LCM and LCA if needed.

I think you want a mixture of Higgins Boats (LCVP) and LCPLs. Both were used at Guadalcanal and photos of the LCPLs definitely show them in navy grey. For what it’s worth many of these boats were manned by the USCG.
LVTs were LVT-1s, their first outing. Un-armoured and unarmed, though the marines did add an assortment of weapons apparently. Still viewed principally as a logistics vehicle at the time I think.
Guadalcanal, Saipan? Come on you really want LVT-4s for Tarakan and Balikpapan. ;)
The OTP stuff is good, albeit it’s a long wait. Just a pity the roofs don’t quite fit on some of their buildings. The vehicles in resin are top notch though.

I hope you gave them some feedback on roof problems. As they are a local supplier, I am keen to ensure that they keep improving their product. Their supply time has increased from what I hear, I think they are victims of their own success.
