Issue 400 of Wargames Illustrated, due out end of March, will have a free cover-mounted set of rules with it. The rules will be Death in the Dark Continent Lite.
DitDC is North Star's 19th Century African rules, written by Chris Peers. The 'full fat' version has been around for the last three years https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=243&page=1 (https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=243&page=1)
This Lite version has all the army lists (90 of them) stripped out, and all the histories of the period etc just leaving the basic rules. But it's enough to get playing.
If you haven't got our ruleset, have a think about picking up Wargames Illustrated. We'll also run some army deals in April to go with the release of WI 400.

Very nice, I'm liking the last few freebies.
I've never played a wargame before so I will give this a shot.
Cheers

I've been away from all things hobby due to writing a crime novel (which got picked up in a 3 book deal, I'm happy to say!) and so I'm looking at getting back in to some toy soldier hobby - this is perfect timing. The Anglo-Zulu war has always been a fascinating subject for me, and as I mentioned in a thread I started way back in 2019, (which I'll probably resurrect) a conflict I would like to dive much deeper into.
Will keep my eye out for this, and get started on painting some British in the meantime.

It’s a great game and really happy to see it getting more exposure
This should drag in quite a few more gamers for the period.

The army deals are also now available to buy, including 2 using Perry plastic figures. Because DitDC doesn't need a tremendous amount of figures, one box of Perry Miniatures British Zulu War infantry makes you a 300 point army.
You can order them here:
https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=243&page=1 (https://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=243&page=1)
There's also a 'join WI Prime for free in April' offer. Prime members get a £5 discount code to use at North Star every month. So buy the mag, join prime and use the discount code to get £5 off your already discounted DitDC army. Win win.

Might there be some Perry deals which involve only, say, Zulus or Mahdist Ansar...?
