Title: Osprey Campaign: Poland 1939 - £2 in WH Smiths
Post by: Adam on 01 September 2009, 07:34:45 PM
Hi everyone. Just thought I'd let you know in case you hadn't seen the advert on the telly. Osprey has started a ww2 collectible book/magazine series. The first one is at an introductory price of £2. When I flicked through it I found out that it is the Campaign series book but with a different, hardback cover. Bloody good deal, if you're interested in that area (which is probably the aspect of ww2 I'm interested in most as my relatives on my Dad's side fought in the Polish forces).

Also, it said that the usual price is £7.99 so if they keep 'repackaging' the Campaign series it'll be a good way to get some of the titles on the cheap (in a sturdier hardback).

Unusually for a series of books, issue 1 comes with a list of all the other titles in the series (wish more partworks had the courage to do that)

So after issue 1 Poland, issue 2 & 3 (3 should come free with 2) give you Denmark & Norway, plus France (very good price £7.99 for 2 hardback Ospreys).

The rest of the sequence is :

Battle of Britain
Libya 1940
Tobruk.
Iraq 1941
Crete
Moscow
Pearl harbour
Guam
St Nazaire
Doolittle Raid on Japan
Gazala
Sevastopol
Midway
El Alamein
Stalingrad
Guadalcanal
Dieppe
Kasserine
Kursk
Tarawa
Anzio
Marshall Islands
Cassino
Normandy/Omaha
Normandy/Utah
Normandy/Sword
Normandy/Gold & Juno
Caen
Saipan & Tinian (nearly a typo there as I almost put StTrinians)
Bagration 1944
Normandy/Cobra
Warsaw
Falaise
Paris
Lorraine
Siegfried Line
Peleliu
Arnhem
Leyte
Ardennes 1
Ardennes 2
Rhineland 1945
Iwo Jima
Meiktila
Remagen
Rhine
Okinawa
Berlin
Hiroshima & Nagasaki

Issue 2 (with 3 free) should be out today.  Hopefully it will get the same widespread distribution as the first.  It's a pity that these things rarely go out "sale or return" as I fancy some but not all of what's to come!

Generally partworks only go out on general release until issue 6, then after that you'd be expected to order. But yes, I'd agree with you fully there are some that are preferable to others.

The issue list is much appreciated. Think I'll pick up the Iraq 1941 book, it's a campaign I know precious little about.

There is also a part work out right now building an Avro Lancaster in 1/32 scale. No way is anyone going to spend the £1250 (true- work it out!)
