Title: HMG for a modern vehicle?
Post by: ulverston on March 24, 2021, 05:20:12 PM
Hi Chaps,
I have four (well 5) of the old Corgi Landrovers which I think are roughly 1/48 scale. Having looked at pics from the middle east/Pakistan/India etc it seems they are still being used and most have some sort GPMG on a post at the front. Has anyone else used these old die cast models and where would be the best place to acquire an MG (or 4)?

Thanks for any help or tips... as soon as I get the guns I will strip the toys down for repainting and add some armour to a couple of them.

Company B has Dushka with gunner:  https://company-b-models-and-miniatures.myshopify.com/collections/crews-for-afvs/products/miniatures-post-war-dshk-and-crew

Eureka also has a Dushka, either by itself https://www.eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_126_150&products_id=11620

Or with ZANLA, Afghan or Soviet gunners

My Afghans are still saving up for a Landrover, or Ford Ranger, or Toyota Hilux.  For now, they follow the traditional Afghan way and make do with what they have:

Yes I saw those this morning, at 45p each they are cheap as well.... the Landrovers may end up with an RPK each!
Having just watched Mosul (I found it excellent and well worth a watch) I would like to find some baseball bat heads to plop on figures to create the Iraqi SWAT team... Empress do Afghan heads with a cap which is similar.
Anyone out there doing this?

Crooked Dice.

They are an excellent match with Empress figures (I will dig out some bodyguard figures made from Empress Universal Soldier bodies with these heads).

Try Spectre miniatures, they have a range of support weapons for mounting in technicals.

Choose your scale carefully.

Clockwork Goblin Automated Infantry weapon Sprue (might be different to the current Warlord ones) compared with Empress ones.

Now, a quick measure shows the M2 is about 35mm long, which at 1/56 is 1960mm

Now Wikipedia says the length is 1654mm, which gives a calculated scale ~1/47, so it is probably 1/48.

The Vickers is about 25mm, Wikipedia gives a length of 1120mm, which makes it about 1/45.

Ultravillain this is fantastic thank you. I literally just purchased some of the Empress Universal soldiers with Afghan police heads but the Crooked Dice will be so much better. My next click will be taking me to the Crooked dice site. I did find an interesting spot to purchase HMG's etc.

Sadly abroad but I may try an order on payday... I look forward to seeing your figures

Fantastic work Mr Smurf, the figures look perfect, the heads are a perfect match and exactly what I was hoping to achieve. To be honest without your pointer to Crooked Dice I would have used the Afghan heads and been forever disgruntled with them!
I had forgotten about Crooked dice, the air con units are really good value and I never seem to have enough of them. My defence budget is just not big enough!

I just saw Digits recommending Spectre (my favourite ruleset for moderns as well) I will look but often things are not in stock... I have been waiting for the rocket pod to plop on a truck for quite some time.

When my lottery win comes in or I sell my final kidney I will have one of everything from theu range, they are beautiful figures.
