On the other hand I hope that this does not mean you are abandoning tradition model making. I still admire your Stalingrad layout build.

Have you done any tuitions on how you make your scenery.
Or painting guides for buildings.
It’s very excellent.

Al  you used to blow me away (and I am sure many otehrs) with your 20mm scenery.  The jump in scale gives you even more scope to weave your magic.  This is wonderful.

If you don't mind, I am curious why the change to 28mm?  Adn what has happened to the wonderful collection you used to have in 20mm?

Bought it few years ago after sending for a test piece from Graham & Brown  and after a 30 min search through my histories i think this is what you need as its still for sale from different outlets as well so search:

Hi Richard i still have the Crete boards and Nijmegen and the Island,Juno was sold. All my other collections are 28mm  and when i moved onto Chain of Command  i started skirmishing with 28mm.
I have my Afghan 80`s , Gettysburg, Stalingrad , WW1 , Star Wars , Vietnam Hue City/Boxer rebellion and Ardennes terrain in 28mm and the fir cloths cover AWI, ECW, Renaissance , War of the Roses  and Vietnam(20mm)  cheers AL

Ps I have to wear glasses to paint now so 28mm easier to see and more open to the artist in me.

Hi Buildings are 3d printed is that the scenery you mean.I used to do pictorial posts of my layouts as i designed and built them but Photo Bucket (still don`t like saying the name) destroyed posts with 4,000 pictures in them.I was derailed for a long time after that, now i post a few odd pics but never to that level anymore.

I couldn't find that wallpaper on the Graham & Brown website but I didn't find this, which looks like a close match

one other random thought - which you've probably already had! What about shell damage to the roads, gardens, etc? The barrage that knocked all those houses about would have fallen all over the place.

Post by: alcal on 25 April 2021, 12:44:21 PM
Ok i had an 18`x 5` fur cloth and i cut two 7`x 5` out of it and taped them together to create a 7` x 10` the fur is shaved with hair clippers then painted with a badger air brush (the £20 paint comes from the glass jar one) using only water based paint (household emulsion watered down). When it was the full cloth it had wheat fields left taller and painted to suit built in , but shaved them all off and did a re-paint .

Post by: alcal on 25 April 2021, 03:19:51 PM
Thats a smile at you question , reason is Teddy Bear fur is a cloth hence it is 1.5m wide but sold per linear meter so it can be up to 40-50 meters long but only 1.5m wide,so what i did with it means i now in essence have a 6` x  10` game cloth , cheers AL

Ps in the picture it is more to one side of my 6` x 8`table ,that is so most of the seam is hidden under the road.

That is a superb little town indeed. i have the same files and printed some of them on an FDM printer, but i have to say your resin prints beat them by far. My resin printer (photon) is to small to print the buildings so have to use my FDM one...

You sure you cant slice them up and then re-glue after printing ? I did mine on a ELEGOO SATURN so it does have a bigger build plate but some i still had to slightly reduce the scale or chop up .

Once you have bought the file for printing the building, how much do you reckon it costs to do one of the Normandy houses.

Using the resin printer about £17 each and vehicles about £4 each  thats for 28mm if you go 20mm then about £13 and £2.50 cheers AL

Al

That village is spectacular - so many small details I could look at it all day.  Now I want to try and do my own village in 20mm.

How do you do your rubble? Is it just loose scatter

Wonderful set up.
All the detail, love it. :-*
Will be spending alot of time looking at the photos.
That means less painted time.
Oh well. ;)

Love the scatter of bricks and assorted rubble. Some of the pictures are quite striking too and if tailored properly could probably look like proper pics from the environment of the time! Great work!

My conclusion. This is like one of those great railways layouts I was taken to visit at Christmas in major departmental stores. Can spend ages looking at and still find something new.
