Hi chaps, here I will post images of my Burgundians. They are all Perrys, and were painted by a friend in France called Lionel Bechara, and finished and based by me. Here are some pavisiers to get things started.

They make for a wierd back-to-front unit!

Burgundians are such a splendid-looking army, and I'm conscious that they have already been collected to a superb standard by others, not least Simon Chick. I have a sense of walking in the footsteps of giants.

I'll be using them, next year, against the Swiss in my other thread, with my To the Strongest! rules. All the units are based for a 20cm grid, but by taking out one element, can be used on a 15cm grid.

Superb, and you are planning to use my favourite ruleset. Can I ask how you did the parishes? Are they decals, and if so where do they come from?

 Thanks

Smashing stuff!  They really look superb.  Although Simon Chick and Dave Andrew’s have built amazing armies for this period, yours will be the first based on garibaldi biscuits.  ;D

Funnily enough, Garibaldi was born in Nice. The man was all about biscuits, it seems.

Just to build on my former comments, I love the way in which you have based then as if they were fighting, utilising their Pavises in a sort of Caracole manoeuver. A fab touch Simon and it works so well with such numbers on the bases.  :-*

Here are some arquebusiers. I see that I've failed to give them a standard, which I shall rectify when I inevitably do a second (third, etc.) unit. Again, beautifully painted by Lionel in Paris.

Excellent stuff!

There's another use for a Liegeois force, if you have enough units for a whole army. There was a sort of civil war in Liege in the 1480s, between those who supported their Burgundian-appointed bishop John of Hoorne and the those who followed the notorious William de la Marck, known as the 'Wild Boar of the Ardennes'.
La Marck had somehow been raised to a position of power by the previous bishop Louis de Bourbon (who was both cousin and brother-in-law of Charles the Bold), but had pushed his luck too far (apparently he murdered the bishop's secretary) and was exiled. He returned with an army of mercenaries (mostly raised in France) and had the bishop murdered. He tried to get his own son made bishop in his place, and had to be confronted by Maximilian (who by then was ruling the Burgundian territories). He was defeated, and John of Hoorne was appointed bishop. However a couple of years later la Marck was arrested and summarily executed, and his brothers carried on the civil war for several more years.
Details are scarce, but certainly has potential? On one side the Burgundian-backed Liegeois, on the other the rebels, brigands and mercenaries of the La Marck family.

Sounds interesting, I'll need to use them for something. :-)

Mats also did me a crossbow guild banner, so I'll need to get some of them painted at some stage. I'd also like to get some dismounted knights with pike painted, so that I can tackle Guinegate 1479.
