Hi folks. Just after a nudge in the right direction as I'm after a set of nice 28mm Thracian Peltasts- ideally plastic. I don't think any of the main brands make them. The Victrix Greek Peltast aren't what I'm looking for.
Looking for something like these ...
-
O think you will only find decent Thracian peltasts in metal . 1st Corps make quite a nice range and they are nicely priced.
-
No one, I know of, does plastic Thracians. It's hard to tell from the picture are you after the earlier style Thracians, with the classic head cap and crescent shield, or the latter style Hellenistic Thracians, with thureos shields and helmets? The latter could possibly be kit bashed from current plastics the former probably not .
-
Could the new Persians plastics from Victrix or Atalantic work? Perhaps with the Victrix crescent shields.

I've just made some using Victrix peltast bodies and shields, together with romphias and heads (and some cloaks) from the Victrix Dacians.
They look pretty reasonable IMO, I'll try and post some pictures once I've finished basing them

I forgot to say if you can see past plastics Crusader miniatures do some really nice Thracians

As stated in plastic you will have to wait.
In 28mm metal there are a lot of choices:
Old Glory
Crusader
1st Corps large selection: Nice characters

Newline Designs
Wargames Foundry has especially nice characters.
Warlord (used to have them) these are more in tune with earlier Greek rivalries period.
Relic, Newline, Old Glory and Crusader all working together to solve their Galatian problem:

25mm RAFM older smaller but nicer Thracians:

Thanks for the great tips all. I think those "25mm RAFM older smaller but nicer Thracians:" look closest to what I'm after but I'm not a fan of the very small 1:56 mins - which sadly probably rules out 1st Corps too. Kit Bashing may be my best bet.
-
If you like the RAFM miniatures I guess you are after the earlier tribal Thracians in which case Foundry has Copplestone sculpted Thracians that are nice.

Thanks. The 1st Corps ones look great - but a bit small. I don't have any Foundry. How do they compare for size ?
-
The Wargames Foundry Thracians are terrific - both the foot and the mounted. I think they are Steve Saleh sculpts, so the later ‘chunky’ style rather than the more delicate Perry stuff

As a rule of thumb, with Foundry, if they are sculpted by the Perry twins Foundry models are on the small side of 28mm. If they are sculpted by Mark Copplestone or Steve Saleh ( which the Thracians are) they are the more modern larger 28mm.

Sheesh... those Foundry ones do look gorgeous. :o
Whilst I go away and cry in my beer and try not to click that website shopping cart again, here's the promised picture of my hastily kitbashed attempt - still WiP, needs touching up, matt varnish and some base grass and tufts but you should be able to get the gist ...

These look the goods -- all from Victrix components right ?
-
Yep. Dacian heads, cloaks and arms, Peltast bodies mostly

As it happens I am doing a Thracian force at the moment.
Here is a couple comparison pics of (l to r) Old Glory, Crusader and 1st Corps.

The Crusader and 1st Corps are, surprisingly, about the same size. Old Glory a teeny bit taller.
All the Old Glory come with Romphai but with spare javelins in the shield hand. I cut the Romphai off and drilled out some of them to hold a wire spear. They have Greek style helmets and greaves and half of them the Celtic type shield.
Here are a few together (without shields):

Sorry the pics are poor.

Thanks. Old Glory might be the best, size wise , for me. Although, looking at their website, they're described as 25mm. Do you have any side by side photos w Victrix, Agema or Aventine figures ??

Sorry no. Only just started Ancients. I have Macedonian pikemen in Crusader and Aventine, I put that comparison photo somewhere on a thread in this section... The Aventine fit fine with the Crusader.

Here we go!. Finally got mine ready for a photo. Victrix Samnite bodies, heads from Persians and custom made crescent shields.
-
and again :)
-
That's me buying a box of Persians then!

Nice kitbashing featured in this thread!
Kudos to you both.
