Title: 2nd Seminole War - group thread
Post by: BillK on 06 June 2021, 07:37:35 PM
This thread is for anyone gaming the 2nd Seminole War (or the 1st or 3rd), regardless of scale, to post WIP and game pics or exchange information.

My Seminoles are done, I think, and I have made good progress making my terrain. Figures are a combination of Conquest (Warlord) and OG; painted by both myself and a friend. Next up, in-between my ongoing WWII efforts, will be some US Revenue Cutter Service Troops.

Just a couple months ago, I visited Dade's Battlefield and Fort King while in FL to see me "little" brother.  The palm trees sure look the part.  Need a few pine trees, though.  And a triangular breastwork too!

Love the Seminoles you and your friend painted up.  Great job on you too giving them a similar look.  Not sure I could tell they were painted by 2 different people if you hadn't mentioned it... 8)

In addition to Pines the Bald Cypress and Live Oak are native to the Fort King area. The later two also may have Spanish Moss hanging from them.
Have fun.

@bulldogger2000, the Cutter Service patrol boat is fantastic.

Good to see people playing this period.   I recently ran a 15mm game a few weeks ago using Sharp Practice 2.
The pandemic has put my face-to-face gaming on hold for over a year and I have missed multi player games.  I particularly wanted to do a 2nd Seminole War game, using some minis that hadn't yet made it to the table, so went looking for a straight forward scenario that had Marines and Navy troops.  I decided on the January 26th, 1837, Battle of Hatchee-Lustee Creek. This was a major engagement  involving Regulars, Infantry, Artillery, Alabama Militia, Marines, and U.S. Indian allies. Commanding officer of the Marines Col Henderson, and General W.K. Armistead were there.

I'm a little detail oriented, so when I decided to paint Seminole War figures, I had to make some Florida specific terrain.  Nothing says Florida like the Sabal Palmetto tree.  Various manufacturers make palm trees, but not the Sabal Palm.  See my blogpost about making Sabal Palm trees.

:) Thanks Bob... more vegetation still in the works.

David, the 3D printed fort on your blog looks great.
The mini Lincoln Logs made for a great stores shed.

A couple shots to keep the thread alive...
Runaway slaves
and
Cherokees (which bear a striking resemblance to Seminoles)

Very nice work on those runaways and Cherokees.

I have some of the same Foundry figs painted up for a fictional turn-of-the-century African scenario and was also thinking of using them as escaped slaves-Maroons (should really add some vegetation to the bases I suppose). Also just ordered some B&P figs to possibly convert to escapees-Maroons, along with some others to be worked-up as Cuban smugglers.
