Title: Rif War Display Game

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you all after our visits to both Border Reiver and The Other Partizan.  It was a really great experience talking to people about our display game 'Death in the Rif'.  Everyone had a great and enjoyable time...which is what it's all about :)
I've eventually managed to download some of the photos onto photobucket...hope you like them  :)

Hi Helen,

It was based on an attempt by the Spanish to retake a Fort which had been captured by the Rif on the 31st May 1921. The fort stood at the top of Mount Abaran, not far from the town of Melilla. 
The fort was initailly garrisoned by 500 Spanish infantry who were overcome by a Rif rorce of 250 men (the Rif losing only 4 men). 
The Spanish infantry sent to reclaim it had no real artillery support (the fire from the Spanish mountain gun batteries falling well short of the fort) and were also 'green' and poorly trained.  Ultimately, they broke and made a quick exit (rout) back to Melilla.  The game reflected this in every way though, on one occassion, Dave "the builder" Burns (in charge of defending the fort) lost more Rif than he would've liked to.  It was all good fun and a very enjoyable experience.
I'm hoping the pics will get other wargamers imaginations going and perhaps sow a seed of interest in this fascinating period in history.

Thank you Bezzo for the thumbs up :) Unfortunately it isn't detailed inside.  The whole thing was scratch built by one of the display team - Dave 'the builder' Burns (a very talented individual to say the least).  However, I've been thinking about the possibilities of recreating this in resin but I would have to be sure there would be enough of a demand to go ahead with this venture.  If there are any of you out there who would be interested in having one in resin, then I'd love to hear from you....the more the merrier!  :)

Alasdair says that he played on it at Newark and thought it was a goods game.
