Can anybody tell me what scale diecast cars are the nearest to Fallout 32mm figures please ? I want to buy a job lot off fleabay and just want to make sure they are the right size. Im looking at 1/43 scale.

Nominally, 1/48 scale is commonly associated with 36mm figures, whereas for 32 (or large 28s) the most popular scale these days seems to be 1/56 to 1/50. By that logic, 1/43 might be a bit on the large size - they definitely are a bit too big for 28mm figures IMHO, but it can be disguised somewhat.
That said, if you want to use them for terrain or cover, it might work, especially if the actual figures are not based on flat washers. Also, it is very difficult to find proper cars in the smaller scales, so if you can get some for a reasonable price, the slightly larger size might be an acceptable tradeoff.
And finally, the Fallout aesthetic (even described so in one of the artbooks, if I am not mistaken), in line with the 1950s retrofuture look, pretty much aimed for "either huge or tiny cars - nothing in between", so you'd get that "land yacht" (in German, "Strassenkreuzer", i.e. "road cruiser") feeling sorted out.

Y'know I get this odd feeling like someone may have put up an article about die-cast cars at one time. I don't remember who or what specifically it talked about. Must've been quite some time ago.
I think your best bets are 1/43 die casts of cars from the 1950's. Those would probably work fairly well for Fallout. Maybe mod a few. Here are some Amazon links of those kinds, but as always, try to shop locally before giving Feudal Megacorporate Overlords your hard-earned money.

Y'know, now that I think of it, Tootsietoy made some interesting falloutish vehicles way way back in the day. I specifically remember a car carrier with huge tailfins. Might be worth looking for on eBay.

Heck, you may not even have to paint any of these if you want wrecks. Remember, get the trashed ones for cheap, not the collectible ones.

In my experience, 1/43 cars work perfectly with 28/30/32mm miniatures, because of the fact they're pretty much the right height when standing next to a based miniature.
If you get 1/56 car models, and don't base them, they'll look positively tiny when next to based miniatures.
And this goes for both slotta-style bases and washers!

I once read an article about this, where it was posed that the height of a miniature matters more than its footprint.
Case in point: the pictures taken by mr. Smurf. The based miniature can actually look over the cabin of the correctly scaled truck, whereas the roof of the Beetle reaches to about mid-chest, which is pretty much spot on.
But when we look at the footprint of the differently scaled Beetles, the 1/43 one looks to be the size of a Buick, but again, the 1/56 one is just too small.
1/48 is the goldylocks zone, and this is what I use for my 28mm WW2 vehicles.
But trying to get a range of (period?) civilian vehicles in that scale is actually quite the challenge. Which is why 1/43 is a cheap and abundant alternative, that (to my eye at least) is a better option than the rather more limited range of 1/56 vehicles...
