Title: Adding to mousepad terrain mats?

Wondering if anyone has had any sucess painting on top of one of those mousepad terrain mats

with or without texture - I've a greass one I'd rather had a road on it

I've used Sharpies and other markers on them with no problem.  They've held up fine through lots of play, rolling up, and storage.

One of the Ogre neoprene game mats had some half-hexes that were shown as clear terrain that match up better with other mats if they are forest, so I corrected them.  The 2 half-hexes in the forest on the upper right side of the markers used:
