Title: Al Andalus... 3 of 3 - FINSHED
Post by: pws on 04 July 2021, 11:10:07 AM
INFANTRY
The first of 3 posts dedicated to the "big" project of 2021.Arabs of Al Andalus.
As always a cheerful mix of figures from different brands, 90 metal miniatures only. No decals were harmed ;)
Based with real earth from al Andalus, taken on the beach of Cadiz during the last trip to southern Spain in 2019.
They are organized in units suitable for Lion Rampant.
Movement trays: designed and printed in 3D by myself.

Now that is what I call "getting the dirt" on an army...!  lol

Seriously, that's a cool idea. I just finished painting a Moorish army for Saga meant to represent the forces of Cordoba. Feel free to click on my blog link to check 'em out...

Nice work Mike.
Few years have passed since the days of my first "Saffarid" DBA armies  ;) it was a pleasure to scale them up to 28mm.
It's pity that the old "fanaticus" site has gone, I'd had loved to compare them.
Ciao

Absolutely beautiful army!  The hand painted shields are very nice indeed, and extra points for using Spanish sand for basing.  I thoroughly approve  lol

Are the figures mostly Artizan with a few Black Tree and Perry?

Yes, that was a great site. Those were the days! Now, I see myself recreating many of my forces in 28mm that I had done in 15's...

Third and maybe last post for Al-Andalus, this time it is the turn of the Christian militias under the leadership of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar aka El Cid.
Various miniatures as always, mainly Crusader / Artizan and Gripping Beast.

It was a nice project that has kept me busy since last Easter (Infantry - Cavalry)  and more from the natural iberian setting I could easely use them (all of them) in many scenarios as the Crusades but also in southern Italy from the Arab expansion up to Emperor Frederick II, with his famous Lucera's archers and militias

Lovely, great handpainted shields and great overall army. I actually appropriated some sand from Cadiz last months on our trip there, very inspiring place to travel generally. Bit too late for my own arabs, but i'm sure i will return to that topic at some point.
