As Ancient wargamers, I am just curious how many elephants you own of the various scales and sizes?
I am a light weight, I only own 2 28MM Victrix, and 4 Baccus 6mm War Elephants.
28mm
(https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LnQL343XEsE/X4dBJh1pRKI/AAAAAAAALrE/PX2hpjbXbJ4FnajpG58ZkwKh0wSwtH3pQCPcBGAsYHg/w400-h399/6019328B-C41E-4BDF-8DBC-845FC80D8606.jpg)
and the 6mm

How about you? I expect to see some rather large herds in this thread.....
-
None in 28mm - may have to rectify that at some stage.
I have 5 in 15mm - 2 Essex for Later Carthaginians and 3 Tin Soldier for various successor armies.
Doesn't seem like much, really.
-
I have 18 completed. From Aventine to Essex.
Here are some of them. The Ral Partha and Hinchcliffe are on another shelf.
-
Only a mere 10 in 28mm. 4 Sassanid ( 3 Gripping beast and 1 Aventine), 2 Carthaginian ( A&A Miniatures), 2 Seleucid ( Aventine and Warlord ) and finally 2 unassembled Numidian ( Victrix plastics). I did own a 1st Corps one but disposed of it.
-
46, 10mm. Mainly Pendraken.
-
Only the one, a She Elephant. Any advice on how to stop her trumpeting would be greatly appreciated.
:?
-
6 in 28mm. 4 Indian/Successor and 2 North African
-
4 54mm punic elephants, 4 54mm North West Frontier baggage elephants and a GW Mumakil (if that counts!)...
Mike

When they are all finished I'll take a photo. Most are Aventines, but I also have quite a lot of Vendels and a few Essex and Agema.
-
3 Indian Mutiny (Beasts of burden)
8 (?) Wild ones for adventures in Africa.
Oh & one Carthaginian (DBA)
All 28mm.

Ha ha! I was waiting for Simon to ‘weigh in’ with his collection lol
Respect. I currently own zero elephants.
-

:?
You are mistaken. You do not own that Elephant, that Elephant owns you.
-
I have three, one african for my Ptolemaic army and two for a planned Indian army.
They are all Aventine and were su much fun to paint that I plan to get some more!
-
19 in 15mm for my napoleonic Indian armies, plus two 28mm Mumakils....
-
Think I have at least 4 AW Miniatures Indian Mutiny Elephants, 1 Deezee Mammoth, 4 Shieldwolf Miniatures War Mammooths & 7 Lord of The Rings Mumakils. Big note, all unpainted! lol
-
Even though I only have 18 they are far too high a percentage of my troops.
2 retired RepRom and 2 Carthaginians from the 80s.
9 new Indians to make a 300 pt ADLG platoon.
3 barely dry Selucids with armour for ADLG v4.
2 plastic Sassanids, which TBH might never get painted.
That’s 18, and forgot 2 baggage elephants now on the painting table!
-
7 I think
1 republican roman A and A I think
2 successor old glory
2 sassanid Aventine
2 LOTR Haradrim converted schleich elephants (Not sure if that counts)
Cheers
Matt
-
Simon makes me feel less crazy. :D
-
I'm just small fry here - a mere 8 in 25m scale
-
6 Macedonian Successor Indian elephants
8 Punic African elephants
12 Mauryan Indian elephants
14 Mahratta/Moghul 18th C. ELephants
All 25-28mm models...
-
Two unpainted 28mm and 45 6mm (mix of Irregular, Heroics and Ros, and Baccus).
-
3 28mm painted, all GB - 2 Sassanid and 1 Epirote painted by Jjonas!
2 15mm painted, fantasy elephants I think.
4 badly painted 20mm mystery elephants of the African variety with quilted armor and no crew.
1 15mm mammoth (sort of counts?), unassembled.
Edit - and 2 still-in-package 15mm Sassanid 'phants.
-
and 1 Epirote painted by Jjonas!
Lucky!
I reckon it’s the Vendel:

Tomek917, to go slightly off the elephant topic, albeit I totally agree with you about Aventine. I too have looked at an Indian army. Which manufacturer(s) do you plan to use for the rest of the army?
-
Just the one as part of a crimbo pressie for the Missus a few years ago...

James you little fibber!!!!
You might not have crewed & painted it yet, but
it came from Dunhelms, if that jogs your memory. :?
-
Since we are showing off.
https://ancientbattles.com/indian_elephants.htm
I do need to build two more by Aventine. One Indian and their fantastic resin OTT armored one.
Maybe I will have a lottery to make space in the case?
-
Hi Jeff, there's a lovely new printed Indian elephant available from a company called Speira, you'll want one of them too, believe me. It's quite up to the standard of the Aventines but has superb Indian decorations, I'll be adding a new sub-herd of them to Poros' army.

Damn you! Damn you Moby Dick!

Oh I hadn't forgotten him but as you say he is not combat ready so couldn't count him..
-
Oh, they have such nice pieces, that is very tempting. Not a business I had heard of before. Nun with rifle!! ;D ;D

I just got 4 mammoths from Speira yesterday. I had them made to fit in size wise with my deezee ones. Very nice.
16 elephants in 28mm mostly old vendel and GB and 3 in what I’d call 35mm maybe, from Black Tree.

I looked at the link at https://www.speira.net/
The sculpting looks great, but I'm leery of the 3D printing I see here. I have tossed 3d printed stuff when it has that grainy texture (there is a whole resin pour system for filling the gaps, but that's way too much trouble for me. That being said I will look forward to seeing yours when you have some to post. I don't trust the fuzzy photos.
-
Two. An Aventine 28mm Sassanian elephant and an ancient 15mm Minifigs Sassanian elephant I've had for over 30 years.
-
I have more than I thought:
6 x big toy elephants for fantasy games
5 x Garrison 25mm
1 x Minifig 25mm armoured elephant
10 x Britains toy baby elephants converted to war elephants in mt very old plastic ancients
2 x Foundry Indian Mutiny maharajah's elephants
1 x Foundry tiger hunt elephant
6 x Foundry baggage/gun elephants
6 x other makes baggage/gun elephants
And
3 x mammoths for my cavemen to hunt
-
None; though I ridden them, and a very tame Rhino called Ferdinand. This is true, ever walked over a sedated Lion? I kid you not :)

The prints are exceptional, the texture is very smooth. You can also get them increased or decreased in size, or make them fatter, or mirror them. Scarily good, really.

That was an interesting exercise: I am amazed at how many I have.
I started off by remembering my ten Ancients elephants: 3 Successor from Tin Soldier; 7 Classical Indian from Museum's CAD designed Z range.
Then I remembered my two Oliphaunts that I could use to make my Assyrian army into a fantasy Assyrian army. No idea what make they are.
For some reason, that reminded my of my colonial collection: seven as part of my early 19th Century British/British Indians (four troop carriers, three artillery tows) and another three as part of my "general tribesman" army.
So 22 in all!
-
:)So far
- The Holy Roman Elefant of Cremona
- a Sassanid one
- four Carthagian
- a dead Roman somewhere in Iberia
Not enough, there are never enough elefants
-
Painted & ready to play I have 5 25\28mm & 1 mammoth. In 15mm I have 5 Elephants & 3 mammoths. I do have a number of 15mm & one 28mm waiting to get painted.
