Title: Aztec Skin tones?
Post by: Mindenbrush on 18 July 2021, 06:47:22 PM
I have some Foundry Aztecs to paint and although I have the Foundry South American paint triad, I am not quite sure if it is totally correct.

Anyone have any recipes to share?

Thanks,
Graham W

Not sure if you’ve seen this, but I find it useful for ethnic skin tones..,,

Thanks 2010sunburst, I had tried the Coolminiornot colours but felt they were too dark as it starts with VMC Chocolate Brown.
Katsuhiko JiNNai also replied with a GW Vermin Brown, Agrax Earthshade wash and then VB/white highlights.
I watched the girl that paints for WS&S, she uses the Foundry Native American triad with washes.
Thanks for the replies, I will try some samples today.

To be honest I used the foundry triad and a wash over the top. I think the big thing is that they look more tannn3d than Europeans to give the contrast

Yes, but is that "weatherbeaten, spent their life adventurin' and just got off the boat" Europeans, or "pasty-faced, never went outdoors as it was too dangerous, possible plague victim" Europeans?

Asking for a friend, obviously.....

When I was in the Yucatán I saw people who must have been full-blooded natives. They had this amazing deep red brown skin, burnt sienna would be very close. Really interesting people, black straight hair, not more than 5’6” tall. I had to be careful not to stare, I’m sure we looked as strange to them!
