I've been thoroughly enjoying a little break painting up a few old Gripping Beast "Arthurian's".
Originally they were meant for a WAB army for a WAB Campaign weekender at GWHQ (I only managed one unit of cavalry and had to borrow an army!). lol
More pics and sub Roman chatter on my blog here:

Thanks guys :)
It was a lot of fun to do something a little different and try out some shield designs that were not really in sync with my usual style.

The three at the bottom, including the Sutton Hoo-ish helmeted chap, were painted about five years ago when my eyes were a lot better. I've since taken to using an Optivisor and leaving out the eyes- just putting in a VMC German Black Brown slit instead. As the project is more of a distraction then a serious attempt at creating a wargames army (they might - one day!) I tried to paint in some eyes on the third single miniature from the top but wasn't very happy at all with the results- compared to what I was capable of five to ten years ago they look a bit like fried eggs lol
There's always the argument that you wouldn't be able to make out the eyes in 28mm scale humans so I'm going with that for now :D

Great figures and painting. The eyes look fine to me.

Thanks you.
I'll try to dig out a larger image of the "Merlin" miniature which was painted a good five or six year prior to my last eye attempt. There is a huge difference between that and the third mini from the top in quality and size, at least that's how it feels to me. The trick to painting eyes has always been keeping them as small as possible for me.

Great painting on those mini's! :-*

These are classic minis - great paint job. Completely agree about the eyes. I very occasionally do them on character models nowadays but most folk get a dark brown eye socket.

Thanks James. I'm not quite sure how or what I'm painting these for other than the joy! They may transform into an army of some sort- perhaps for Dux Britanniarum, Dux Bellorum of Midgard! ;) :)

When I think back to painting all the eyes into every miniature! My eyesight just cannot cope these days as illustrated in my last attempt above! If I'm honest, looking back 20 years to the "paint all the eyes in days" I reckon their might just have been a little excessive pride involved! o_o
