Title: Indian style mine workers?
Post by: Jonas on September 14, 2009, 11:40:28 PM
Hallo, some guys and me are working on a VSF project, we need some mining equipment and some workers, preferably some workers which can be painted to look as Indians (from India).

We already have some working automatons (Design 28), I will post some pictures soon.

What I have found available so far is some mining equipment and gold prospecters from Tiger Miniatures (http://tigerminiatures.co.uk/page7.htm), while these are great it will be hard to make them look Indian, but we might be able to use some of them as English employed workers or something.

Also there is the two guys from the Pax Limpopo range of Eureka, in the Pig Tickler game, one holding a showel and one with a bucket.

Does anyone know anywhere else something can be found of use?

Thanks for all the replies... I already have some of the civilians from Fighting 15s/Eureka, there is lot of great miniatures in that range, like who doesn't need an indian rope trick for VSF settings in India?  :D

These links should be enough to get me a good working crew for an unobtanium mine, maybe I should cut off the heads of the guys wearing fez and putting some Ramshackle gasmasked turban heads on them, after all it might protect them a bit from the unobtanium fumes  ;)

Castaway Arts has a new line of Indian badmashes.  Some of them could easily be converted to mineworkers:

Old Glory have a Middle Eastern Peasant Mob, set RPM-06 - :

They could also be converted with your gasmasked head idea. They are the usual OG standard- good price, not bad, but some odd poses.

You might find something suitable if you look amongst colonial gun crews, you might possibly consider checking Ottoman Turks too.

Redoubt have a "Wellington in India" range that includes figures just crying out for VSF use - look at the Indian irregular infantry with rockets - but for miners, some of the irregular artillery might work without much adaptation :

The downside is that there are very few pictures on the site , and for this range they mostly seem to be drawings rather than photos.

This is all great, thanks very much you all...

I am working on this projekt together with Thorbjørn (who is painting up Prussians) and Phoenikuz (Who is laying down the law (rules))...

We are going to present a game at the danish alternative miniature games convention Horisont (http://sites.google.com/site/horisontesbjerg/)..

The Horisont page is both in danish and english, our game has the working title of "Victorian Sci-Fi: India 1879", not the best of names, but we thought it was more important to get some information onto the homepage than wait for last minute because of a name.

The page has a small introduction to our VSF universe and a few photos, the photos were taken at an earlier event where we tried out the basic rules and had some general fun  :D

I think [if memory serves] that they are the "tall and spindly" style Redoubt figures, like those in the Zulu Wars range, rather than the more "normal" chunky 28mm of the the ACW and Boxer ranges, which can put a lot of people off them.

That looks like it will be a good show. I like your photos from the rules trial, so please post some more from the game at Horisont  :)
