Title: A look into my 10mm TYW/ECW collection.
Post by: Battle Brush Sigur on 01 August 2021, 10:51:36 AM
Heyhey, I wrote a series of articles about my 10mm Thirty Years War figures collection. The series is focusing on the figures I use and how I describe the differences between the ranges from the three/four manufacturers I used.

https://www.battlebrushstudios.com/2021/08/10mm-thirty-years-war-overview-infantry.html (https://www.battlebrushstudios.com/2021/08/10mm-thirty-years-war-overview-infantry.html)

Starting with the infantry, next week we'll talk about cavalry and the week after that it'll be about cannons, commanders and companions. Hope you find the articles interesting!

Excellent article, really enjoyed it, I have an interest in doing the ECW in 10mm so this is a gold mine of information, looking forward to seeing more. :)

@Atheling: Cheers! They're just lovely to paint.

@jambo1: Cool, that's nice to hear. Over the years I was asked about which figures I use and so on a few times, so I decided I sit down and once and for all write an overview about what I use, why and how.

@FierceKitty: I did earlier this year, and I really like the fact that they offer pikemen with lowered pikes. I'd love to give them a try, but for now I got a big pile of 10mm TYW figures lying around already, and no real pressure to get more. Also, Brexit made me think thrice about any order from the UK. Do you have any of the Newline figures? If so, how do they compare to the ones I'm famliar with?

@Shanec: Thanks very much! Glad you find the article interesting. TYW is a bit of a niche period, but I won't shut up about it. It's way too interesting. :D

Right-o, here's the second article, in which I share some thoughts on cavalry. As with last time, I'll present and compare Pendraken's, Old Glory's, Lancer's and Irregular's figures and chat a bit about how I like using them.

https://www.battlebrushstudios.com/2021/08/10mm-overview-thirty-years-war-cavalry.html (https://www.battlebrushstudios.com/2021/08/10mm-overview-thirty-years-war-cavalry.html)

I hope that you enjoy this article and find it interesting or useful for later reference (when you've come around to realize that you too HAVE to play the TYW in 10mm. ;) ).

The next article will deal with commanders, cannons and companions (ie odds and sods).

Newline are lovely; I wish the ranges were bigger. Size is very close to Pendraken, but pikes are a bit more solid - a big plus, to my mind. They have frequent sales too.

@FierceKitty: That's cool to hear; I'll keep my feelers out for one of those sales!

Heyhey, here's the third article in the little series about my 10mm TYW collection:

In this installment I cover commanders, cannons, companions and general odds and sods. Since I wrote this one I thought of some more things to discuss (if you're willing to read it.  :D ), so I'm sure there'll be more about this coming in the future.

Hope you find the article interesting! Let me know if you'd like to hear more.

Beautiful photos and painting Sigur. It's a little irritating though: your 10mm painting is sooo much better than my 20mm painting. :'( :'( :'(

@fred: Thanks very much!

@Codsticker: Well, painting 10mm is easier than painting 20mm, I'd say. :D If that's any consolation to you.

The other day I read a bit about the Polish-Ottoman war of 1620/21. Very, very, very tempted to get into that I have to say. Especially since it features Gabriel Bethlen a bit more, and I've been interested in the exploits of that guy for a while. A very interesting historical figure. Moved his army all the way to Vienna even!

If I ever do a specifically 30YW imperial army to fight my Swedes, I'll make a point of having an old woman with a cart as part of the baggage train. Epic theatre to support epic battles.

That is on my long term radar as well (once I’ve done the Swedes v. Poles thing).  Saw the other days that the Turks had elephants and they saw some action (unfortunately for the elephants!)  :o .

@FierceKitty: Can't have no old woman with the train! ;)

@Friends of General Haig: Really? That's amazing. I have a bunch of Ottomans who should fit the bill, but I turned them into slightly more fantasy figures for Hordes of the Things. Incidently, I got elephants for that army too. :D

@MGH: Thanks very much! I love my armies too. :)
