Title: Black Seas - Who's Playing?
Post by: Mr. White on August 09, 2021, 04:08:04 PM
Everytime we vacation to the coast I get in the mood for a game in the Age of Sail. Go figure. I used to be a Man O War player back in the day and sometimes I drift an eye at Dreadfleet because it's so beautiful. However, I know Warlord has Black Seas which might do the trick. Also, there's Mantic's Armada, but isn't that just with the Black Seas rules?

Anyway, anyone still playing? Thoughts on the release overall?

We are still playing and enjoying the rules. I tinkered and made my own variant (extra gun weights, historical gun allocations based on actual ships, use of d10 throughout rather than mixed d6/d10, improved critical hit rules.
It’s a fun set of rules, plays fast and aleways gives a good game; the models are very nice, too

You are correct about mantic armada being the same basic rules.

You can use the napoleonic ships in it as “kingdoms of men”

It’s a fun game

In addition to Black Seas, I believe there is also Oak and Iron and Fighting Sail out right now.

Just an FYI for you.
