Title: How useful are the Oathmark supplements?
Post by: Ethelred the Almost Ready on August 10, 2021, 01:37:46 AM
The Oathmark - Who's Playing?  thread was getting a bit long so I thought I would start a new one.

I am thinking of buying the Oathmark rules.  Locally I can get a bndle with several of the supplements for a relatively low price.
What do the supplements offer?  I have read what the contents are, but what I would like to know is how much do they add to the gaming experience?  Of particular interest are the rules for different formations Bane of Kings), character progression (Oathbreakers), and elite units (Battlesworn).

Of the three, I rate Oathbreakers and best, followed by Bane of Kings with Oathsworn in third. They all add to the gaming experience, but undead add most, followed by formations, chariots, and stone magic. Even Oathsworn is very good, however, if only for the engineering and water rules. Also, all three books have worthwhile campaigns.

I would not recommend Battlesworn, the elite rule is a single re-roll per game, yes ONE, and nothing more.

Battlesworn is only useful if you fancy battles with some boats and rivers with very, very, very basic rules.

Oathbrakers and Bane of Kings are a very different animal with nice additions and new rules and units.

Regards.

Battlesworn, however, can be bought very cheaply on occasion. I got mine for 10 bucks. And the engineer rules are quite nice.

My take on the expansions.
