Wargames table I mean.
When we were kids it was a 6x8 sandtable in the attic. When I moved into my own quarters it shrank to 6x6, sandtables had by now gone out of fashion. Standing around a 6x6 combat zone lasted us well over 40 years till old fartdom, and combatants sadly falling off their perches, meant a 4x4 table to sit around has lasted right up today.
From today the new, New Emporium at the Seaside's table has gone back to the glory days... The imperial Decree is for an 8x4 Field of Mars!

5.5' x 7'. The first limited by my reach, the second by the size of the cellar space available.
I have come to wonder why 4' is a standard width...
-
Not to brag, lol but mine's a good size, at 6x4 (or 180x120cm, to be continental ;) ) and has been for as long as I remember.
I'm one of the many who started their gaming career with GW offerings, and 6x4 was basically the staple size. Every game they came out with, had a recommended table size of 6x4. Even when they started offering skirmish games such as Necromunda.
So I now have a table onto which I put 3 120x60cm modules. Plan is to make different modules with different textures/terrain; I have a desert one (x3), there'll be a snow trio, a temperate/woodland/field trio and a rubble/underhive/scorched earth trio, and perhaps even more. The idea is to store them underneath the center third of the table, with both sides able to fold down, for storage.
When skirmishing, one could easily fold up just one of the two sides, for a 4x4 (120x120) table, using just two modules.
But of course the total table will always remain a firm 6x4... :D

Our current regulations call for 2m safety distance in all activities, thus the club tables must be that deep. ;)
My latest table at home was 140 x 210 cm - enough for the usual 4'x6' battlefield and roster sheets, dice boxes, tape measures, coffee cups and pints. A side table is obviously an option, but typically all that junk tends to wander on the main table anyway. That's why I really appreciate a bit of border these days.

I have three 3x3 tables, one 4x4 table and one 6x4 that breaks down into two sections. At onetime I had a 4x12 that doubled as a playmobile table for my kids. My next table project will be one made up of 2x2 and 4x2 sections that I can put together in various ways to make potentially 12x6.
-
Mine can be 4x2, 4x4, or 6x4. I have three collapsible 2x4 tables I can put next to each other as required. I suppose I could also go for a 12 x2, but that just seems silly LOL.
PS, 6x4 is (or was pre metric) the standard size for a sheet of particle board in the UK, hence it was chosen as a basic table size to give no waste…..

5' x 7.5', mine is made up of three 2.5' x 5' folding tables.

I recall my brother and I would play epic wargames stretching over an entire weekend, on massive chipboards rested on top of picnic tables. I forget exactly how wide they were, but we could only reach the centre by stretching and leaning precariously, resulting in more than one fall onto the surface. Sadly the ends of the chipboard would overhang the picnic table underneath considerably and droop in wobbly fashion, so accidental falls always resulted in a 'boingy-boing' noise as the battlefield flapped its wings and hurled all models within 2ft of the edge to their doom.

No purpose built table, so I have two folding tables to produce a simple 6'x5' table - with an additional 2.5'x6' spare table that is used for holding junk - but can be press-ganged into service to give me a total of 8'x5' when needed.
The advantage of modular and foldable tables is that I can fit all three in my car (VW Golf) along with terrain, etc...so my entire set-up is transportable to various cons, houses, etc.
It's not sexy, or at a height I'd like (I prefer standing height tables with bar stools), but it's modular and has done me good service.

I have 6 4' x 2' tables so can make anything up to 6' x 8' or 12' x 4'

As a lad, I had a large unfinished basement with an 8x8 table. I had to stand on a stool to reach the center. Honestly, a 7 by 7 would have been better.
Since then, I have fluctuated in table size based on my space. However, for most of my life I have been able to get a 6x4 set-up as needed.
Now, in my Hobby Room of my home (No need to be jealous all, it is not as glamorous as it sounds) I have an 8 ft x 4 ft table with storage areas underneath. I also have a portable table that can get me to 6 x 4 on the go.
-
8'x6' can handled all the games I have put on.

14’6” x 5’
I could set it up it a little bit bigger but I don’t want my games room feeling cramped.
Did toy with having two separate tables, but I like playing with a lot of figures so one big table it is.
Giles has got a bigger one I believe ;) :D

I *almost* clicked the "report to administrator" link as this is well past regulation size and should be reported!! :)
(I'm jealous is all)
Mine are two folding tables that together are about 6' x 5'

I have two spaces my Garage has an 8' by 4' but can be a bit tight with boxes of wargames stuff
My games room in the garden is just over 5' 6" by 4'

Back when I started in the 1960's the battle area was the floor or garden of whichever room/home we played in. A few of Napoleonic, WW2 and ancients games took place in the school gym.
Then at university it was the table in the kitchen if at home or a table tennis table. So the size varied. One WW2 naval game was on a factory floor.
Then we formed a club and the tables were 6x4 or 4x4. At home I had a 6x4 piece of hardboard that sat on top of the dining table. At the club I made a good friend. He and I have wargamed almost every week since 1971 on his 8x6.
Since getting married I first had a 7x5 until the kids occupied the room so it was back to the hardboard on the table. Then back to 7x5. Now I have a permanent 6x4 because that is best suited to the grandchildren.

Seems perfectly normal 8)

I currently have a 6 x 4' table with room for rules and other paraphernalia on the edge so I guess I could squeeze it to 8 x 4. I am plotting to make some form on 8 x 6' table as I find 6 x 4' really too small for anything involving 20th century armour. Not enough manoeuvre room!
-
4x4 that’s all I need since my games are all skirmish based , haven’t put my gloss toy soldiers out for a game yet they will definitely need a much larger table!!
-
Max 6’ x 3 ½’ it is what it is for an average UK home. I use 3 x portable decorator aluminium tables, that sit on square plastic downpipes (from gutter systems) and that gives me a height of 40”. The combo of that height and the shallow width is a great help to a back sufferer!

When I started in the 1960s it was my Mums kitchen
table, 4'x3'. Then one wonderful day my Father brought
home two boards. each was four & a half foot square.
Following the advice of Phil Barker, in WRG's ancient
rules, I used the same colour (Brunswick Dark Green,
gloss) for them & my figure bases. That way my
opponent (at the time classmate Stephen O'Leary, aka
Oscar) would find his units standing out like the
proverbial sore thumb.
I still have them. though they now reside in the garage.
Replaced by two 4' square boards. This allows a bit more
room around the table. None of us are it seems getting
any thinner! :D

Somehow, despite having a study and a spare room, I am relegated to two pieces of 4x 3 mdf on felt based battens that can be laid over the dining table to create a 6 x 4. It feels big enough for most of my games.
-
Currently 10' x 5' in the lounge, for our weekly gaming group, which I want to make 10' x 6', with another 6' x 4' table set up in the cellar, currently covered in junk but will be cleared in September for solo play.
Getting the loft boarded soon so that'll be a third table....
No, I'm not married!

I have four 2.5'x6' tables I can deploy at my gaming building. So, 5'x12' or 6'x10' are as big as I can go.
-
I have a very modest 4x5 foot table, which is as big as my wargames room will allow. It does have built in storage, a built bookcase and adjustable sides to clamp my terrain tiles in place though

7ft by 5ft. I used to have a larger table but it ended up covered in crap and I used to have to paint on it. Now I have somewhere to paint and can set up games a lot easier.

The wargames "salon de guerre" table is 3.6m x 1.5m playing area, this is the main table for the business currently, but can push out to 4.8m. I also have a small 2.5 x2.5 for board fakes or asymmetric skirmish games , gladiator, gun fights, dungeon adventures.
I can also make a T, F, E or t with the table with additions on e sides. On the first floor downstairs I can set up a 16m x 1.8 if I move to the grand Salon which we have done twice for a bigger game. We have Accomodation for 5 couples, 2 Super King ensuite rooms, plus two Queen self contained ensuite apartments and a double bedroom.
When I complete the renovations of the stable and carriage buildings I will be able to take a 30m x 1.8, with T, E, F, t, 3E an X configurations, less than two years away. I hope to start renovations in the stable block in the new year, it will also offer barracks accommodation for 4 single beds and bathroom on the ground floor(modeling a ww2 German barracks room), plus a kitchenette, lounge, bathroom and Queen self contained couples apartment on the first floor.
cheers
Matt

My biggest mat is 1.80x1.00 meter...but I think that is still too big for my taste. I prefer to play games on a 3'x3' or 2'x2'. Anything bigger and I tend not to have that much interest in the rules set. I just prefer a small gaming space with fast combat and lots of scenery.

I have a 6' x 4' table. Honestly, I rarely use more than 4'x4', the extra two feet is normally used for dice, books, etc.
Lately I've been doing a lot of solo Five Leagues and such, and those are good on a 2' x 2' board.
-
My "table" is hollow folding closet door panels that are 1 by almost 7 feet, set over a larger table. Usual table size then is two pair for approximately 4x7 but I've got a third pair to blow it up to about 6x7.
-
Well when my new place home is built my parents are giving me the old pool table we had when we were younger and I recently made a portable tabletennis top to go on top of other tables so that will double as a gaming table.

Yep, I find I use that space for books, dice, dead minis reinforcements, refreshment etc.

Original sand table at the club was 12x12. Years on we decided to ditch the sand and it was rebuilt as two 8x4 wheeled tables for skirmishing with a 2 ft extension to link them together for big battles. Idly looking for a used table tennis (ping pong) table for home at the moment.

I'm in the process of building an overlay kind of thing for our dining table that will be 120*180 cm. But it still needs a fair bit of work. It consists of three parts that can be bolted together and taken apart for storage. I now have the frames, but the top part still has to be done.
-
I can go up to 6x4 but for the last few years I have played all my games on 4x3. I can leave the 4x3 set up permanently and find it so convenient I doubt that I'll set up the bigger table ever again.
-
Hi used to be 6 x 4 feet but nowadays 4 x 3 feet, I somtimes miss the bigger table, but not much
Glen

Mine is 7 by 4 feet when fully expanded. When not in use two leaves come off and stack on top to make a 4 by 3 1/2 foot table
-
6x4 but can extend to 6x6 or 8x6 as required. Don’t often use the big table these days as can seldom complete such games in an evening.
