Enjoyed your AAR and the appreciate the time taken to text up the photographs. Interesting to hear that Bill thought the cavalry to be over-powered, while in other places it has been voiced that cavalry can have a tough time or at least burn out after one attack, which shows the importance of playing a few games before making conclusions.
With such a tight ending, it is good to see that the rules can give the Spanish army a good game. Did not applying the -1 initiative modifier impact on the game? I would imagine that it is a fairly gentle mod.
-
Normally the French get +1 for initiative, negated in this scenario by the inept Dupont. The Spanish are supposed to get -1. The two pip difference on D6 opposed die rolls means the Spanish should not get it too often. Between Dupont and forgetting the -1, it was even though the dice gods favored the French slightly in this.
Hmm, should keep track of who wins it...

Very interesting. Waiting for this ruleset to play games based in the Indian Mutiny.

A lot will be determined by how you rate the troops. There are the three basic ratings, elite, regular, poor. Traing will affect how the unit maneuvers and fires, while motivation affects close combat and how many hits the unit takes before heading for the showers. There is an interim step called weakened. Weakened units get -1 on combat dice and cannot move towards enemy units unless led by a general. They are best sent to the rear to recuperate, presuming you have a secure rear. Units need not have matching training and motivation.
-
Very useful information, thanks a lot. With Rating, Training and Motivation it is possible to create good profiles for the troops!
-
Let me clarify. A unit could have regular training and poor motivation.
I suppose fanatics with lousy weapons and drill could be rated poor training and elite motivation, for example. There could be nine possibilities:
elite training with elite, regular or poor motivation though the last seems highly unlikely
regular training with elite, regular or poor motivation
poor training with elite, regular or poor motivation
And for the Mutiny I imagine you could throw in infantry without firearms.
There is no points system, which doesn't bother me. I suppose you could gin one up if you wish.

No point system, thanks!
Waiting now for my rulebook.
