Title: Does anyone make 28mm sci-fi cow troopers?
Post by: BigDaddio on 12 September 2021, 06:04:06 PM
Hello, fellow hobbyists!

I'm looking for 28mm(ish) sci-fi space cows, of the anthropomorphic variety. Comedic style is okay, just wondering if anyone makes such a thing.  I know Alternative Armies has some in 15mm, and there a couple of options from Team Frog Studios but anything else? I see plenty of goat-like sci-fi beastmen but I want something more cow-like.

Kitbash, maybe?  Minotaur heads swapped onto scifi ogre bodies?  Probably some non-GW choices out there if you want to avoid the Evil Empire.  IIRC Privateer Press has some good ogres (by some other name) in the War Machine mercs range that have separate heads, and minotaurs are all over the place - maybe Reaper Bones for low cost and ease of decapitation?

Depending on how big your cow troopers need to be, you might be able to use something smaller than ogres - check this thread from the fantasy forum for a nice GW orc-to-ogre conversion and then picture them with the 40K ork body and a bovine head swap.

Thanks for the tips!

I was hoping to avoid kitbashing, as I already have more conversion work than I'll ever finish lol.  I may have to go that route, though.

Confess I'm not seeing anything only that looks like it would work, which is a little surprising.  Puppetwars has a Blood Bowl player that might work as a base for a scifi trooper, and there's some oddball statues on etsy but nothing minis-sized.

If you want some frustrating but inspirational images, there were the two old "codeless" Citadel-era Rogue Trader minotaurs:

One of the etsy sculptures did the same "horns as guns" motif, oddly enough.

If you do end up kitbashing, Warlord has some farmyard animal sprues that have 28mm cows on them.

Vodkafan asked for a, 'Spare cows head' Not the whole cow,
just the head! he then put it on one of his Galactic Hero crew.
Ask him nicely & he might provide a picture, maybe even
some 'How to' tips.
