Title: 15mm Compatibility with Old MiniFigs
Post by: Ethelred the Almost Ready on October 02, 2021, 04:58:28 AM
I came across what was left of my abandoned Macedonian army (last saw a paint brush in 1989).  I had sold off some of the figures but still have a sizeable number of miniatures.
They are old MiniFigs bought in 1986 or 87.  They mostly do not bear any resemblance to the current pictures available on the MiniFigs site.
The phalangites look good, as do the light infantry, but the few cavalry I have left are a bit misshapen.
If I were to flesh them out with modern figures, what would fit with them.
Next to my AB Napoleonic miniatures they look thinner but only a little shorter.
I suspect Xyston will be too large.  Would Forged in Battle be a good fit.  From the pictures they look like they would be a similar style.

Thanks

Ethelred. Wow! I'm surprised any figure sculpted in the '80s......with the exception of Foundry who still seem to have the same "house style".....bears any relation to current sculpts. Can you put some photos up? I'm intrigued as the the look of the old Minifigs.

Thanks

I will see what I can do tomorrow.  From what I ca see, the phalangites are the same. My hoplites, peltasts and archers are different.  The site doesn't have pictures of the Companion cavalry, but from the few pictures I can find on the internet mine are different.
It is almost like there are two styles, the infantry are quite nicely sculpted.  The cavalrymen look a bit squat and squashed.
I had some lovely Spartans as part of a hoplite army - unfortunately I sold those and the newer Spartans don't look as good.

I'm guessing that your figures are not 1st Generation 'strip' Minifigs, but 2nd Generation. Essex and Chariot/Magister Militum Miniatures are both reasonably compatible in size and heft, though the sculpting styles are different. Maybe get some samples and checkemout.
