3. Chinese
From amongst the ashes of Kashgar, a new/old warlord has emerged, intent on re-establishing Sianking as the leading power in China. You are Slan-Ties the Almighty, the All Conquering and All Powerful, Slant Ties the Cunning; reborn and renewed in your crusade to restore the Imperial might of China. You have gathered the fierce tribes of the steppes around you, and your treasury has been replenished by selling vast quantities of dodgy forgeries to a solid procession of gullible western academic institutions (your latest wheeze is to have a full set of ‘Alexander the Greats Imperial Treasury’ knocked up in Kashgar bazaar, available in three sizes). The priests also tell that this is a fortuitous time, as a new messiah, the so-called Golden Child, is rumoured to be being born in the High Pamirs in the next few months. The skies are full of strange stars and comets and omens, and you believe that it is your destiny to use the power of the Golden Child to crush all opposition to your Imperial ambitions!
Your objectives:
1. Drive into the High Pamirs, locate the Golden Child and return him/her to Kashgar
2. Plant at least two sets of Alexander’s Treasures at credible locations within the High Pamirs and sell them to the highest bidder.
3. Hold Kashgar at the end of the game.
Forces at your disposal: c.7,000 men

5. Bukhara
You are Adrian Enver Pasha, ‘The Beast of Bukhara’ and absolute dictator of the emerging regional super-power of Adrianstan.
Emboldened by your continuing ability to dance rings around the ‘old’ empires of the region, you find that your appetite for conquest and aggrandisement remains un-sated. You therefore want more land and more resources, and have declared a ‘March on the East’, with the High Pamirs as you objective.
This will give you a powerful central position between the British, Russian, Chinese and Afghan empires, and make you a serious player in the region’s ‘Great Game’. Rumour also has it that the area is rich in mineral, oil and precious metals, and therefore has intrinsic value in its own right. You have also proclaimed yourself ‘Iskander’ after Alexander the Great, the only other man in history who has loomed anywhere nearly as large as you in the region. You are intrigued by the many stories that abound throughout the area of Alexander’s treasures being hidden there, and feel that it is your destiny to discover them, and have yourself crowned as Iskander II.
In addition, you have the inconvenience of that effeminate French officer that you captured at Krasnovodsk, Draylon, to consider. The French have vowed revenge, so having him accompany you in your ‘March on the East’ will provide a diversion from French diplomatic pressure. He accompanies you in an iron cage, pulled by two wild asses. You realise that to kill him would mean displeasing your many western supporters, who you still need in view of the ongoing Bolshevik threat, so extracting most value from him is the name of the game.
Your objectives:
1. Conquer the High Pamirs.
2. Drive a hard bargain with the French for the life of Draylon.
3. Find the treasures of Alexander.
Forces at your disposal: c. 7,000 men

(The Beast finalises his 'March on the East', ignoring the screams of Draylon from the cellar beneath..)

Thank you.

I am of course just playing for time as I can't find the CD with them on them.....and, as I said at the start, they aint half as good as previous outings due to our photographer putting his family ahead of his mates (selfish swine). I'll get something out this weekend, promise

I've sent you my praise elsewhere but I think the use of Pulp Miniature Istanbul police for Bukhara Pasha and life guard is nothing but a stroke of genius. They look sodding great! Who makes the sentries behind the Pasha? And who painted the lot?

This is incrediblstuf, keep up the good work!

Emir of Bukhara is based on Alexie Sayle as the Sultan of Hatay from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Sentries are Woodbine miniatures Turks. The Blessed Steve Dean is the maestro with the sable brush.
-
Love the pulp figures :-* :-* :-*
The scenery is out standing (What we can see of it ;)) more pictures please not more excuses :D
-
... Steve Dean is the maestro with the sable brush...
I thought so. "I bow..." etcetra
-
What a very clever use of those Pulp Miniatures!
The Beast of Bukhara looks very warlike contrary to the real thing
[here is a photo of the Emir of Bukhara on 1911

Emir of Askaristan -our fellow LAF member- uses the same photo as his avatar]
As always your posts are awesome and very inspiring !!!!!
Liked them very much, need to get some Italians ......etc
BTW I would remind you that Copplestone makes one figure that looks like Enver Pasha!
More pics please

In the meantime I found some interesting links that represent some of the life in Bukhara etc, for anyone interested in the subject:

But I must admit that Ignatieff has captured the feel of the era!

As always, great links and insight into this obscure area. Marvellous!
One point to bear in mind is that 'The Beast' has flexed history over the last eight campaigns and now has an Empire that stretches from the Caspian to the Chinese border! During that time he has 'commercialised' the oil fields of the eastern Caspian basin (and has modernised his army on the proceeds), made a strategic alliance with Germany, and generally given the unfocussed super - and not so super - powers of the region the runaround, culminating in Bukhara being asked to join the League of Nations!!! He is closer to The Republic of Hatay (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) than the medieval kingdom of Bukhara these days! Oh the wonders of alternate universes!!
Which Copplestone figure do you refer to on Enver Pasha? I've converted a unit of Turkish officers which look quite dandy now.
-
Great stuff!
What model did you convert for the Fat Warlord on horseback?

Its a straight up Copplestone figure.
-
Ah so... BU29 Mounted Chinese Officers. Why did I never notice that pack before?
-
I love these treads. There’s a lot of lovely painted figures in your collection.
-
Excellant ! :)

Is the guy holding binoculars and fur cap from pack C19 WW1 turkish officers, which looks very similar to actual Enver Pasha.
Your stories are as always marvellous. One point to discuss: Your Emir is not very friendly with all european nations see Draylon story.
League of Nations was famous to put embargo on the arms trade against countries like Ethiopia (which permits Italians to gather whatever quantities of modern weaponry they could afford.) This attitude might have impose difficulties over the modernisation of the bukharan army. Second point: germany around 192? in reality was not the most powerful ally, so, I think that you also think of an alternative Germany, and I would be interested to hear something more.
Furthermore, I think that your next campaign is to be set on the east side of africa, which nations do you will use? or is it still secret.

As always, and most welcomly, you keep me on my toes Argsilverson!
In our 'world', in a previous campaign (in a galaxy, far far away) Von S donated his find of Alexander's treasure (found in the Taklakaman desert) to the British Museum. The Brits (rather innocently really) decided not to be so harsh on German disarmament, and so allowed them to keep some uptodate kit. Also Von S is also a well-to-do and renowned archaeologist, who has equipped some of his old comrades from the Brandenburg Grenadiers to 'support' his expedition....and so it rolled on.
Good info on the League on Nations by the way - thanks!
East Africa it is....still working on the plot. However the major paradigm shift is that the late 19th century subjugation of the continent is running about 25 years late!!! More in good time
-
So, we can expect than your next story will be set again in the area.
What a relief!

;D ;D ;D

Still wrestling with how to give the Germans a role in the area.....
-
Since real Germany (Weimar republic) of the time was weak to have more active role in these remote areas, having to struggle among lots of political powers, fight an enormously high inflation rate, we have to invent a fictitious Germany or German ruled areas.
So, my idea is as following:
WW1 ended as normal, but there are some German ruled territories that survived.
I fancy that some of the colonies remained as independent states after the war. So far, I decided to have a German East Afrika, German Pacific islands and by surprise some state in china, could be German Kiatschu territory or so. These "states" although remote one from another can form a kind of coalition/confederate with a common scope: to gain control of raw materials -oil- to be used for their prosperity. One bonus for them is that a whole army of Germans (the so called German Legions) -equipped with armoured trains, guns and heavy weapons, consisted of ex Imperial German soldiers, german POWs and german origin civilians from the "colonies/cities/territories" which are widespread along Russia and Ukraine.
More arms and some colonial troops can be transferred by sea to reach German Legions to reinforce them to try to gain some oil rich territory and claim it in the name of German Confederation. Allies and mercenaries can be drawn by ex turkish soldiers or even arabs and indians.

Excellent notion. I was getting caught up in revised Versailles style of thinking, which was getting just horribly complicated. I may well use your suggestion, if that's ok with you?
thanks again
-
Feel free to use my ideas.
More Allies:
White Russians, Caucasian tribal warriors or even Ukranian and Polish contigents.
Just a note: In Ukraine the International Intervention against Bolshevikism included troops from many nations: French with french and colonial troops, Greeks, Romanians, Polish, alongwith various bands of whites.
Also note that in the gauldron that was Caucasus area (and nearby areas), there could be present various armies of Ottoman and Neoturks Turks, Armenians, Pontic Greeks, Turkomen, Georgians, various Caucasian tribal warriors, and and ....
and whatever you can imagine.

Argsilverson - you really need to write it as a novel. You've got this whole genre sewn up :)

Good idea, when I find time
At my age full of work, with 2 kids studying, doing my postgraduate studies, involved in politics -having also a wife running in the campaign for parliament-
I doubt I can write it soon!

Having attended the IWF 2006, we have decided to attend the 2010 as it is in Athens once again. Not sure what rule set I will play but I only play for fun not cattle ranches/sheep stations as I am locally known as a bunny!! lol

Good question!I will be glad to meet fellow LAFers, so I would fo my best.
I am not informed about IWF on April, can you provide more info please?
Yes it is strange to ask info from you, but it seems that I am not well informed about what's happening here!

Not bad idea,an interesting approach, needs some rework.
But I do not like the idea of the return of the Kaiser in power.
Another point: According to the treaties signed, Germany could not keep going producing arms and weapons (even the production of steel and coal was limited).
Germany faced a great problem high rate of inflation (it has reached at some point the figure of nearly 1000% per day), extremely high unemployment, plus the rivalry of the politic fractions.
Germany doing her first steps in modern democracy, trying to recover from her wounds, was weak to give any support. >:(
-
I started this story trying to help Ignatieff to find place for Germans in his campaigns.
I like your approaches, but:
1.- Let's germany follow its path in history, and let our fellow LAFers to have Nazis for their games in Pulp, WWII and weird wars. If we change history what they will have to fight?
2.- Left and leftists regimes of the time used to stay at their status quo and not interesting to expand by force. So, I think that a more conventional "imperialistic" power could think to invade foreign countries to ensure oil flow etc
-
Yes and Ignatieff should get a whole new range of figures with WW2 weapons and not 192?'s
I think we have stolen much of Ignatieff's thread
-
But the question is still running:
how we will play Pulp, Interwar, WW2 and Weird WW2 without those Nazis!
All the rest is open for any discussion with Ignatieff's permission
-
this is starting to get a little bit too political for my taste
Yes, it's too political. Political discussions aren't welcome here. Just stop it.
-
yes
I sincerely apologize
I got carried away and did not realize where the simple question "what do I do with Germany in my BOB alternate timeline"
can lead...
maybe cause I read Stephen Fry and Harry Turtledove...
however, a forum is not a novel....
sorry
-
I would also like to apologise if I have offended anyone.
It was not my intention.
