This 1066 anniversary awoke a desire to play a Stamford Bridge scenario using my (mainly) Foundry/Gripping Beast Vikings against a, not yet, acquired Saxon force. I would be grateful for your advice on deciding what to buy. Many thanks for your participation!

I've used all sorts in my Anglo Danish units. Footsore old and new (Bill Thornhill sculpts and Matthew Bickley sculpts), Gripping Beast, Saxon miniatures (now sold by Warlord), Wargames Foundry and Drabant:
Here's a couple of units to illustrate what is possible when you mix and match with a bit of care:
This unit has the (new) Footsore, (old) Footsore, Gripping Beast and Drabant:

This Unit had Wargames Foundry (dead dude), Gripping Beast and (old) Footsore:

This unit had Drabant, (old) Footsore, Saxon Miniatures Gripping Beast and (very old out of production Gripping Beast
(https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-d-6iqLGJGDc/X8ug-FUHLCI/AAAAAAABFOg/Hkm6W-j1cIMaYblBtOGpvk1ZhSpu17PEQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/SCENIC%2BANGLO%2BDANES%2BUNITS%2B1.jpg)
Finally, a Command Base of what is possible if you just mix and match from two ranges:
Saxon Miniatures, Gripping Beast and a Special Edition Gripping Beast Harold Godwinson (given away at a WAB Campaign Weekend many a year ago):
Basically is you decide about how you want the miniatures to interact with one another mixing ranges isn't am problem.
I hope that helps?

They fit very well mate. The Matthew Bickley Foundry ranges are a perfect fit though I have tended to use more of their Normans ion my army then that of their Saxons. A great range with bags of character:

Many thanks for the inspirational pictures! They look exactly how I would like the Saxon horde to look like :-* :-* :-*

Thanks. I crammed four miniatures on a 40mm x 40mm bases in order to get that "Shieldwall" feel. I'm please that you have enjoyed the pics.
I've still got another three units to do! Four if you include some allies Danes :o

They are table top quality, not up to your fine brushwork.
Here is my army on my Blog.

Because I am a fan of Bob Murch, I will suggest his brand new 1066 range, which can be seen here:

Unfortunately, they all seem to be out of stock at the moment, but perhaps an email to Bob will help.

The late Saxons from footsore sculpted by Matthew Bickley are beautiful, but for armybuilding Victrix is a great choice. Beautiful plastics and you can also use parts from the Vikings and Normans sets. Also soon they well release a ranged infantry set. So than you have everything for your army.

The Foundry and Footsore Late Saxons by Matt, look no further.

Are all the Foundry Saxons done by Matt Bickley? Some of the poses look similar to the Coppplestone style?

From my personal point of view I would say no. (Definitely not from the same dollies).
I think Matthew has developed a very unique style. Just look at the quality of the stuff he's done for Footsore and Claymore Castings (the best Hundred Years War miniatures I have ever seen!) You can see there is a marked difference in the dramatic tension in Matthew's sculpts when compared to that of Mark Copplestone.
Not that I'm knocking Mark Copplestone! Far from it- he's one of the very best sculptors around- just different from Matthew.

Is it because Bob has to service the Kickstarter first?

No love for Crusader? I have a bunch of their Normans, and they are fantastic. Mix very well with the Perry stuff I have.

I already have some of their Huscarls which I will use. Nice figures with awesome chainmail detail ;)

Excellent. Everything I've ever bought from Crusader has been well cast and well sculpted. They aren't the flashiest but are solid additions to a multitude of armies.

It's a but of a mystery to me as to why I don't have any Crusader Miniatures in my Anglo Danes just yet. That could very well change as they are very fine miniatures. 8)
There Normans, Late Saxons and much of the El Cid ranges could be recruited quite easily.
-
I'm currently using all of them in my Saxon army. Victrix are the best looking but their bases don't really fit in 20mm bases without lots of trimming.

I also find their legs and arms are a bit large on a 20mm square base. It can be done, but takes a little planning as well as trimming the base as you note.
