Title: "Pulp era" fork lift truck?
Post by: Remgain on 24 September 2009, 03:33:25 PM
Ciao!

I'm planning - in the next far future - to built a section of a "pulp era" harbour.
I'm searching for pictures on the net, and I'm wondering if there were fork lift trucks.
I found something, but seems dated around 1960.
Oh well, it is useful as well...

I have to see again "the riders of the lost ark" as in the final scene there is a fork lift truck.

But, do you have any hint?

Thank you!
Marco

Did time as a forklift operator for many years and saw a great variety of forklifts, but nearly every older one has the same configuration, 4 wheels, boom and mast lifters, etc. Older would be a bit bigger than newer. Forklifts could and do have exstension forks for larger / lighter loads and specialized "fork" addons for picking up long pipes by running a single lift bar thru the pipe, or roll of carpet etc. Tires are dictated by surface, dockside with un even ground and planking, figure on inflated tires rather than hard rubber (which would appear as half the thickness of inflated). Also older period forklifts would vary in color from the more standardized international yellow that most modern ones are done up in.

Hope that helps a bit.

There were primitive forklifts in the prewar period, but gantry cranes were more popular and common. Fortunately they are also easier to model.
