Good morning. I am just about to start painting my Pendraken 10mm Turkish force for service in Palestine. Looking at my various sources I see uniform colours ranging from sand, through khaki to an almost green colour. I don't know if this represents differences in summer/winter wear, or theatre ( eg Middle East vs Caucasus), or a bit of both . Unless anyone can advise more definitively I plan to opt for Vallajo Khaki. Does anyone have anything better based on real uniforms? If so any advice as to a Vallejo paint reference as these are the ones I can most easily source locally.
Thanks in advance. I can always rely on helpful advice from Forum members

Try this:

IIRC I painted mine Vallejo Green Brown for the most part.

I painted each unit in a different shade to represent different standards of manufacture and wear. So From Vallejo Khaki to Russian Green.

Chaps, thanks for the link and advice. Looks like I can have quite a variety. I used to have some photos taken at the museum at Gallipoli and the army museum in Istanbul but can’t find them!

Contemporaneous black and white photographs of Ottoman soldiers often indicate significant variety in uniform colours within the same unit. I use a standard light khaki for all 6mm figures, just for ease of painting.

I used various shades of khaki green to sand.
Look at the Australian war memorial uniform collection

Matt, thanks. In the end I went for some units in Vallejo "Russia" uniform and some in "khaki", both then suitable lightened for highlighting. I'm pretty pleased with the results. Another project largely completed over the Christmas break.

Here is a link to a painting guide, for New Zealand and Ottoman troops, produced to support volunteers painting 54mm miniatures for a Gallipoli exhibition in New Zealand. It includes some photograps to show the variation in uniform colours.

That is a great link Goingaviking they are oddly similar to WWII Japanese in appearance.

I have went for more of a brown khaki for my 28mm Turks. I used both Vallejo English Uniform and Reaper Uniform Brown (I think is the colour name). This was based off a paint guide in a old Wargames Illustrated article.

Golgotha, thanks. I used a mix of Vallejo "Russian Uniform" and "khaki" for various units. The film would seem to vindicate my choices! I've just finished my 10mm German Asia Korps. Just the Austro-Hungarian mountain artillery to go now.
