Title: Hinchliffe Miniatures 1970s promotional film
Post by: Bloggard on 16 February 2022, 01:12:57 PM
posting here, as I still associate them mostly with Napoleonics ... :

charming in its own way.

fairly early on in it, there's a chap shown working in the casting room wearing the most extravagant pair of flared trousers ... They certainly wouldn't be allowed by Health and Safety now (imagine, two people in a confined space wearing them!).

and also, Roger Taylor appears in the packing room, apparently moonlighting from Queen, towards the end ...

as per the link above, was highlighted on the Peter Gilder, a life in wargaming blog (Robbie Roddis I believe - so I hope it's ok with all concerned to post here).

ahem, 'cough' ... btw - please keep any 'woe is me' nostalgia comments for the Youtube site comments !  ;)

So not Roger Taylor, former British No.1 tennis player from the 1970s - and still playing in his 80s (who was actually a Yorkshireman!).

ha - no, I know the debonair chap you mean, but not him. Didn't know he was still 'going' - very impressive.

in fact, I'm being a bit cheeky - as it's a lady in the packing dept, who looks a bit like the drummer in question during his 80s short hair period (this says more about mr. Taylor than the lady I think).

Hinchliffe were luxury items when I was of school age. I had a battalion of 44th Foot 1815, which I regret selling off long ago.
The film is a real period piece.  I wonder how many manufacturers back then invested in promotional films?

That was a nostalgic film that brought back many happy painting memories. I still a several painted Hinchliffe Napoleonic units and hundreds of figures that I have not painted nor am likely to. But I am now energized to have a look at them once again.
Many thanks to you for posting this.

I well remember me and our kid's 'away' to Meltham from Sheffield in the 70s. We had a great day, seeing for real massed Hinchcliffe Battalions, we'd only ever seen before in books and magazines.

For me, it was easier to go to Victoria to the MiniFigs shop as I lived in Dalston at the time, late '70s. I do have a few Hinchcliffe now though and very nice they look still

Christ! What did Bremerhaven do to deserve that? Maybe the obliteration of the city during the war gave them the inspiration?  ;)

When I was growing up, Hinchliffe were outside my modest budget to obtain.  I always associate them with the old gaming magazines of the early 70's. Hinchliffe figures, although they are anatomically "quirky", I still love them.  And they make up a significant portion of my older armies.

I blame Hinchcliffe for my obsession with Sasanian Persians after the Purple Primer (Airfix Guide to Ancient Wargaming) - there's a picture in there of heavily converted Hinchcliffe cavalry that opened my eyes to the possibilities for beauty in wargaming figures - thanks Phil and Frank.

weren't they the ones featured on a cover of Battle Magazine? I remember something like that anyway.
