Title: Pikeman's Lament for Late 16th Century
Post by: LouieN on 24 February 2022, 05:31:23 AM
A quick opinion question for you.

Do you feel Pikeman's Lament can cover the later half of the 16th century?  I think it is designed around the TYW or ECW but I do not see a reason why the units would not work for an earlier period.  I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank you

Yes it can certainly cover this earlier period.

I have used it for games set in the 1560's and 1570's in Scotland and see no reason why it wouldn't cover games set in other locations such as the early 80yrs war or Ireland, Poland, etc

Yes, I’ve used PL for Elizabethan rebellions and Armada landings quite successfully with just a few amendments.

Thank you

Any recommendations for modifications?

If I recall correctly the rules work by themselves and it’s the unit stats I amended, in particular using bill and bow statistics from Lion Rampant and some ideas from Stuart’s magnificent Army Royal site:

We've used them for Samurai wars. If it can
be used for that, then your proposal should
be a doddle!  :D

Thank you for the replies

I got my first batch of 15mm Ottomans / Western.  I am just looking for simple skirmish games.

I've pretty much used them as is. I suggest you play a few games with them to get the feel, and then play with the units stats as you want. There are some mods around - Stuart's and TAG have some and there are samurai mods in an issue of Wargames Soldiers & Strategy.
