Thought I should start a new thread for my Royal Navy sailors:

A mighty fine bunch of Jack tars!
-
Dominic,
Those are some nice looking Royal naval crewmen, I like them alot...
TJSKI

Hmph. Showboating
Seriously though, they're lovely (well, as lovely as sailors can get, anyway...). What era are they? Napoleonic?
-
Fantastic, wonderful rich colours  From the WIP photos it looked as if they are done on a white undercoat. I tried going back to a white primer, but just couldn't get the hang of it after all these years painting on black.

Har Har my pirates waiting for you
-
Those look very nice Dominic !
I will paint pirates too now :)
Björn

Thanks for all the nice comments!
@theoldschool - these were done on a black undercoat. I'm not used to working on white too!
@Rhoderic - yes, these are Napoleonic figures, but I think we can mix them in with the Pirates.
These are all from Foundry. But problem is that they don't seem to have any RN officers! I need a pack of Navy officers. Anyone know where I can get some figs that will match the Foundry ones?
-
Really greats mini. I will paint pirates soon i think :)
-
Try Newline Designs - They have a range of 28mm Napoleonic Naval figures and they should be compatible. Very nice painting too :)
-
Great job on the Colonial Marines in the straw hats and striped trousers.
Here in Maryland, the Colonial Marines played a critical role in the War of 1812. There were a lot of plantations along the Chesapeake, and slaves from these plantations were heavily recruited to join the Royal Navy as Marines. Needless to say, stories of them joining merely inflamed local race relations, particularly in the years afterwards. The Marines themselves were largely ignored when the war ended, with the bulk settling in Maritime Canada.
It's a story in search of a good history Ph.D. thesis.

Here are more of my Royal Navy guys... I was concerned that they might look too "modern" for Pirates. So I rewatched Pirates of the Caribbean last night and found that they are OK (at least if I want to achieve the "movie" look).

beautiful, Dom, totally nice troup!
-
Excellent Dom. I hope we get to see pictures of them in action soon!
-
Great job, Dom! Don't worry about whether or not they're "historically accurate." They look awesome, and that's what's important!
-
Thats a fine crew!
If you want officers, a few of the pirate captain figures should do ok I think.
Alternately seek out seven year war or war of spanish succession officers. If you can find an unmounted one. I think front rank has some.
I got some nice eureka figures I was going to use as gov't troops as well.

Here are some aristocratic Royal Navy officers:

-
Oh, well done! Extra rations for all hands, etc.
(Foundry SYW Prussians? They're awesome! )
-
very nice!
-
Thanks!
The centre guy is a AWI British artillery officer from Front Rank miniatures.
The other 2 are British infantry officers from Foundry's AWI range. The guy raising the wine glass is actually an Ensign, with the open hand ready to accept a flag pole. I just scratch-built a wine glass from scrap plastic and wire.
Some historical inaccuracies - RN officers don't appear to have worn sashes. Also, the infantry officers have their long tail coats turned back, while RN officers did not have the turnbacks. Finally, RN officers generally only wore white stockings and effeminate shoes on board ship. I'm not sure if they would wear boots like these guys here.
But I'm happy with them and they'll do for Pirate games!

Top notch, Dom! I can't wait to play against them

Dominic,
All I can say is :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Are these the ones you did this weekend? If so man you are quick! These fit perfectly for what we discussed!
Great Job !!!!!!!

Awesome :D Is there some Teutonic efficiency going on here?
-
Thanks guys!
@Tim - yup! Started these guys on Saturday!
-
Marines are like sailors in pirate games. You can never have too many of them.
These are gorgeous. My reds and whites never turn out that nicely!
-
Thanks Pete - these Marines are the first that I have painted almost exclusively with Foundry paints
-
And my Royal Navy ship:

very very nicc the glass of the officer is so cool and I realy like the Royal Marines
Grimm
-
Very, very pretty! Nice paint job! Jo:)
-
Thanks! This is a toy made in China pirate ship which I converted into a RN ship. Unfortunately, the demon face doesn't quite match! Maybe I should call it the HMS Seawitch!!
-
excellent paint work and love the ship :)
-
Here's a second crew that could either be used as a merchant crew, or even (with appropriate characters) a pirate crew:
The Governor and his Lieutenants (that's Lef'tenants to you Yanks!)
Some generic scurvy seadogs

Excellent, You have really inspired me to start a priate collection after seeing all these figures.
-
Thanks guys!
@Tim - yup, my RN figs are currently with Rob Broom. That's why I had to paint this second generic crew - for our Pirates game this weekend!
-
These are really superb figures, Dominic! Really impressive!
Olivier
-
These look great Dominic. I think it's amusing that the Governor looks typically haughty, while his leftenants look worried. :)
-
These look great, inspired me to find some great enemies for my pirates. Can you tell us what ranges they are from? I really like the Governor and Lieutenants and your seadogs. Where can I get them?
-
If I'm not mistaken, those are all Foundry figures.
Dominic paints the nicest, cleanest whites and reds I've ever seen. I've painted Lieutenant on the Right and didn't make him look nearly as nice as that!
-
The figures are stunning Dominic. The colours are wonderfully vibrant without being garish, a very difficult trick to pull off.
Pat
-
Thanks again for the kind comments!
The figs are all Foundry. If I remember correctly, the Governor and Lieutenants are from the Treasure Island character pack.
Edit - oops! This is Dominic using Prof's computer!!

Aaand the price for most outrageous threadomancy (almost three years!) goes to... midismirnoff.
Seriously, in the post right above you... all figures are Foundry. The above are probably from the American War of Independence series.
-
Look like Perry's AWI British to me...
I'm glad you bring back this treads ther's a lot of very lovely painted figures in it! 8)
-
Really nice painting.

All are very nice looking mini's! 8) 8)
