Title: Help finding the right figure?
Post by: Mad Lord Snapcase on April 13, 2022, 09:02:06 AM
I have decided that in my Silver Bayonet games, I will need a figure to represent the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair, from Susanna Clarke's "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell".

He is described in the following way:

The Gentleman habitually wears a leaf green coat, and possesses long, silvery hair the shape and texture of thistledown, leading to his enigmatic epithet. He has "pale, perfect" skin, bright blue eyes, and dark, perfectly formed eyebrows that terminate in an upward flourish. His skin is always deathly cold, and his voice is described in various supernatural ways.

I have found a couple of pictures on the web, which show him as I imagine him. Can anyone suggest a figure (28mm or thereabouts) which I could use?

I could also do with a 'mad' King George III if anyone makes one?

Something suitable in the Highgate range perhaps?

One of the masters might fit with the right paint job.

Many thanks. That's a very good call. Funnily enough I already own a set of those, purchased from your good self. I have only painted one of them so far, maybe first left or third left. Thanks.

Perhaps something from lucid eye's Elf range?
This chap could work, although you'd need to be a bit loose with your definition of "suit"

Thanks for that, he's definitely got the right hair. If I could just get a head like that, I could add it to one of the Front Rank civilians. As you say, the clothing is wrong.

What about a head from the victrix gallic fanatics?

I'd get one of these, cut off the head and put it on a suitable body:

Mammoth miniatures and white knight, thanks for the inspiration! I went off to look for some Victrix heads (I've got some somewhere) and also look through a box of old fantasy miniatures, looking for something similar to the Forlorn Hope examples.

I came across this figure, I didn't even know I owned! The spitting image of the Gentleman with the Thistledown Hair, by Odin's beard!

I should have done that first. Thanks to everyone for helping.

He looks spot on!
Do we know who the manufacturer is, lest they have other handy pieces?

Always the way

It is, isn't it. I found quite a few figures I can't remember buying!

It did take me aback, finding a figure already in my possession that was ideal, serendipity or what?

In the photo above, I can just make out HA but not sure of the rest. On the reverse, it's clearly marked KEV WHITE.

Michael, in due course he will appear in my 'Mary Shelley' thread, on this board.

Many thanks all, for your help.

One of the best moments in our hobbyist life!  I always go through my collection everytime I start a new adventure. Finding the right figure(s) gives sense to our trend in ammassing collecting those lovely little soldiers!!!
