Hi all,
Anyone know of a European supplier of the 1:50 scale ARII range of trains?

I think they would make a very good base for some steampunk conversions etc.
Some more of the range can be found a little way down the page here:

damn, should have known this earlier....
can't find them in the shop...
-
All this talk about trains these past couple months has me tempted now. I'm gonna have to see what they have in stock at a couple shops this weekend while I'm in Tokyo.
-
Thanks Prof but I can't seem to find them either!
Unlikely I'll be popping into Tokyo in the near future... :'(
I'll have to keep my eyes open on EvilBay.

The Prof just beat me in providing this link to the german onlineshop. I know those guys from the Intermodellbau show, they are direct importers and will try to get a lot for you from Japan, so just ask them as suggested. If they could bring over the kits, it might be a nice idea to let us know about pricing; maybe I would order one for myself ...
:D

How about the Galaxy Express 999? There are two versions of that in 1/50.

It's me again, chaps. I just looked through the japanmodelrailways.com onlineshop myself, and what did I find?
Go to "Eisenbahn SONDERANGEBOTE", scroll down to the bottom of the page, tada, there it is, the ARII 1/50 C53 kit, and
for a special price of only 39,90 EUR plus shipping!!!
Hurry up, it's not many for sure ...

EDIT October, 10th, 11:30 MET:
too late - I've just been notified that the offer is sold out
and also sold out in Japan, as the retailer says...

I saw these at a shop in Shinjuku this afternoon. They're selling for 5000 yen here, so they're a steal at 39.90 EUR.
The kits look very nice. I'm tempted to pick one up next week (Friday), and will feature pictures here if I do.

You cold not possibly post some to Europe?
I would collect orders for anyone who wants some and organize payment

I spent 4 weeks in Japan in the summer, their model shops are on a different scale. In Osaka we found a large two storey shop selling only Gundam. But in both Tokyo and Osaka there were 6 storey model stores, often in close proximity. It was nice to be in a country were the geeks and nerds were mainstream.

I love the model shops over there, I could quite happily spend all day in them. Also, the diy centres knock ours out of the ground, they have everything, absolutely everything. There's one called 'Musashi' on the way to Kyoto from Oskaka (Hirakata) and you can build an entire house and everything in it from what they supply there (including pets).. I get all my balsa from there when we go, it's such better quality and so much cheaper.
The Japanese in general seem to appreciate creativity a whole lot more than we do :?
cheers

I took a closer look at these trains, by the way, and the quality was just okay. In the end I never got one.
As to Japanese hobby shops--yep, nothing beats them. Tokyu Hands, Sekaido, and the plethora of shops devoted to all things in plastic, resin and metal. :o
