Title: A few auxilia
Post by: Muzfish4 on 22 April 2022, 01:56:11 AM
A fair while ago I picked up eight Warlord auxilia in an eBay job lot. Four were plastic and four were metal in cloaks. I thought they'd be a fun unit to paint up with no particular dedicated usage in mind.

Anyway, here's the plastic guys:

I tried to give them an 'operational' sort of look with different skin tones, clothing and equipment to suggest that their recrutment and supply sources are not uniform.

The Warlord miniatures were okay (a better size than their oddly diminutive legionaries) but, if anything, the poses are a bit too dynamic for my tastes. The decals come with the minis. The metal dudes I have didn't come with decals and have hexagonal shields - can anyone advise what decals/transfers would work for them?

Muzfish, I think by your description what you describe as "Auxilia in cloaks" are actually sold by Warlord as "Marines".  Warlord sell a pack of Little Big Men "Marine shield " decals but a pricey way of getting 4 decals.  You can also buy them direct from LBMS.

By the way nice painting!  I really like most of the Warlord metals and have built and Infamy force using them. The only ones I didn't like were the Roman multipart cavalry which were a pain to glue together and the cast-on spears too delicate for my heavy handling.

Regards

Thanks, guys.

Not sure I am after 'marines' but this might be the catalyst that finally gets me to make a LBMS order - they sell the decals that fit Venexia, right?

They do look great, the ‘operational’ approach works well.

I like them!

The warlord Auxilia is one of their batter sculpts.
