Title: A bit of canal for Thunderchicken - quite pic heavy
Post by: Svennn on October 08, 2009, 12:17:11 PM
I foolishly volunteered to have a go at some canal sections for TC. This is the first one which I did as a trial - thankfully well recieved so now I have to build the rest ::)

Nothing flash but here is how I went about it.

I just used Johnsons Kleer over the painted water to give it a bit of shine.

I like that Svennn  :-* are you doing a bridge to go with it  :D

One question, did you radius the edge by hand?

cheers

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the deliberate spelling mistake in title of the thread. Especially Mr Thunderchicken as its for him... ;) lol

James,

I suppose that the base is MDF.
If yes, this material is easily and quickly roundable with a file for wood

Is this a piece of terrain for the highly anticipated solo wargaming convention? A canal for Thunderchicken and Thunderchicken to frolic in? lol

Great piece. Wish I had half that talent for terrain.

Is that murky water just made with filler, or what?

Get out, you. lol

James - yes it was a dremel and by hand - should have used "D" moulding from B&Q ::)

Bako - just filler. Underoated black and drybrushed blue/green and various browns - blue and green give it a bit of depth and the browns take it away from that cliched unrealistic blue water thing. The Johnsons Kleer gives it a bit of a sheen although I may coat them in yacht varnish before I finish.

Thought it was.

*smug mode* We've got a new router table at work that would've done splendidly for this  ;)

I'd go for the yacht varnish, always gives water that little bit more  :)

I bought myself a router years ago and recently saw tables for £20.00 or so in Aldi or somewhere similar.

On the basis I have never used the router in over ten years I decided against the table ;D

I was thinking of doing some river sections using MDF as a basis, but hadn't got much idea how to go about it.

I have now!

Using filler for the water surface would never have occured to me, but it looks great with the Kleer covering.

Shockingly, I have all the raw materials and tools necessary to do it. All I need now is time and talent  ::)

lol Fairy muff  :D

What with this and Malamute's "mis-spelling" remark, I'm getting rather worried about this forum  lol

"Fairy Muff" is actually fairly a common saying, although I don't think I've seen it written before.

Svenn, what's the distance between the canal banks? I'd like to know how much space they'll be to put an armoured canal barge in it :)

Ooooooooh!

Speaking on Svennn's behalf, bank to bank is 70mm.

Excellent, I shall have a play with plans. Although nothing is going to happen until after the labyrinth is done.
