Looking like the characters from the beginning of Brotherhood of the Wolf... With the high collars and cloaks and swords.

We have some figures based on the true story of those events.

I think Black Scorpion would have some figures that would work too and also the
Foundry 18th Century Smugglers...

I have the Shadowforge models, which are actually made by their division Laughing Monk. Fantastic models and perfect for what you're after (I bought them for the same reason).
Here's another model from LM you might be interested in:

Some of my favourite style minis are the bounty hunters/highwaymen sculpted by Martin Baker. I am also using them for my Gierburg project.

Has anyone given thought to what miniature(s) to use for the "beast" itself?

someone on here used a lord of the rings warg for the beast, the one that has a casualty figure on the base (a little greenstuffing to hide the chain mail works well to take the figure into the right century). I stole that idea for my ECW era version.
It's this one (wild warg champion I believe):

The Moor Beast form Reaper would work well, I use hinm as a werewolf but he looks suitably ferocious

There's also the D&D mini : Dire Wolf
I repainted one as my "Legendary" Beast
(http://perrysheroes.free.fr/IMG/jpg/BeastGevaudan2.jpg)
It's a little more spectacular
(http://perrysheroes.free.fr/IMG/jpg/BeastGevaudan1.jpg)
Than the more historical hybrid (which is a modified Mordheim warhound...)

For Gevaudan personnalities you may use Front Rank minis

Of course Games Workshop's "Thing in the Woods" comes to mind (as it was obviously "inspired" by the film's beast):

Ooh Sarge see what you mean with that first wolf he is a nice big monster

The Hell Dorado beastie would work well too.
I just love the Brotherhood of the Wolf movie.

Me too. I've been oogling those Laughing Monk figs for a while, but just can't justify buying them. Not one of my time periods....

I believe that Blue Moon does some highwaymen that would look good too.

Y'know, I only now realized (having not seen the movie) that "Brotherhood of the Wolf" was NOt actually a film about pirate ninjas.

Yeah, but it's about an Indian Ninja so not too far... :D

Actually nothing to add, but as white knight mentioned my humble trial, here's a link to the corresponding entry in my blog: LINK (http://lead-mountain.blogspot.com/2008/11/of-wolves-and-lambs.html). The beast suffered from bad lighting on the photos, but you'll get the idea.
If you scroll down, there's also a French officer from Conquest's FIW-range which worked well for the (younger) Chevalier de Fronsac. Admittedly, I've done this a pretty while back, before this beasty story got 'hyped' by excellent miniatures and scenarios. By now I would definitely go for some of the other figures mentioned here - apart from the beast, of course. ;)

Funny. I just finished watching the movie over the weekend, and went... "HEY! There are no werewolves in this at all...". I was told it was a werewolf movie... :-[
Overall, it was ok. Not a great movie, very slow in parts, but overall ok in my book. (Glad I NetFlix-ed it)
Yea. THose Laughing Monk figs are great, but aren't they 32 mm? Is that a little big for 28mm?
-
I actually love that movie, bought the 2 disc version hehe. For the 32 mm ones, you can put them on some bases that you widdled away at and they should be ok, but all in all they wont be that much taller.
If for some reason you are confused by what I just said, its ok, I am and nothing seems to make sense atm, in my head or on the screen. lol
