Title: Battle of Degsastan 603 at Partizan Show
Post by: James Morris on May 25, 2022, 06:36:54 PM
Partizan last Sunday was the busiest show I've seen in years and it was a great pleasure to see so many old and new faces there.  Our group ran a version of the Battle of Degsastan, a clash between Dal Riada and Northumbria in 603 CE.  Six miniatures collections were combined on a 12 x 5' table with a total of around 1,000 28mm figures, using my own Midgard rules.  The game seesawed back and forth until finally the casualties took their toll on the Dal Riadans, who fled with the loss of five out of six leaders.

The blog article https://mogsymakes.net/2022/05/25/partizan-game-report-battle-of-degsastan/ (https://mogsymakes.net/2022/05/25/partizan-game-report-battle-of-degsastan/) has many more words and pictures of the game, but here are a select few as a taster! Pics by myself and Pete Jenkins.

Fantastic looking table! :-*

A couple of questions, I am rebasing all my mini's be it fantasy or historical slowly from rounds (skirmish) to ranked square bases. It looks cooler and I want to make each unit a little diorama and this ruleset seems perfect for it.
I have chosen the base system from the upcoming Claymore Castings HYW ruleset. 60x50mm for infantry, 60x80mm for cavarly and 40 to 50mm rounds for command.

I am going for 3 bases wide per unit so 18 cm.

The historical army working on is Spanish 11th century. I guess that i.e If I place it under the Command of El Cid. I can have El Cid as the general and Alvar Fanez en Pedro Vermudez as sub-commanders? Pedro would be the army battle standard bearer. Is this possible with the Midgard ruleset?

This is entirely possible with Midgard.  As your unit width would be 18cm, your units of movement (Spear Throws) would also be 18cm.  Heroes would be allocated to particular groups of units so this all works very easily.

Following a number of requests after the show, I've added a blog article showing how I made the terrain cloth for the game at Partizan.  See it here: https://mogsymakes.net/2022/05/31/sherpa-fleece-terrain-mat/ (https://mogsymakes.net/2022/05/31/sherpa-fleece-terrain-mat/)

That looks tremendous.  Around 1,000 figures?  Any idea as to the numbers involved in the actual event?  Could this possibly be approaching something like a 1-to-1 scale?
