Title: Suakin expedition British forces pagri colours
Post by: Jack Jones on June 01, 2022, 09:01:16 AM
Hi All

In Fuzzy Wuzzy Brian Robson states the following (p216):

Cloth pagris were worn round the helmets, different coloured denoting the different arms as follows:
Cavalry - khaki with green twisted through it
Infantry - khaki with colouring determined by Commanding officers
Artillery - all blue
Engineers - red and blue
Commissariat and Transport - khaki
Divisional staff - khaki, with dark blue
Brigade staff - khaki, with red
Cavalry staff - red
Other administrative staff - khaki

I am wondering if anyone has information about this, both in terms of confirmation and detail, particularly where individual infantry units are concerned.

Cheers
JJ

Well I know that Life Guards Officer, Heavy Camel Regt, has a pugaree red and white.
I'll check in my records, but I'm really doubtful about the infantry choice .... khaki with colouring determined by Commanding officers.

Great, thank you … I shall be interested in your information.

I know about the Desert Column HCR, and I was also wondering about the infantry, which is why I thought it worth asking. Nothing I have read (so far) confirms this.
