Title: New Sci-Fi from Soapy & Gripping Beast
Post by: Earther on October 13, 2009, 12:13:04 PM
Soapy does sci-fi:

Gripping Beast are producing Soapy's not-Space Force figures (as seen on his Action Force blog)!

These are nice, i like the paint scheme on his blog.

I hope he will be back to sculpting ww1 soon. I read that he has lost interest in the period and stopped work. I need a few of those sikhs he previewed!

Someone has finally made COBRA troops in 28mm! Awesome!

And he's made the other Action Force stuff too which is also great.

I hope he will be back to sculpting ww1 soon.

I'd settle for them just releasing the stuff he has already done. The new heads, Indians etc. have been on his blog for months now, but no sign of them being for sale on the Woodbine site yet.

Nice figures indeed.

I too would like to see him resume work on his latest WWI dollies… I’m eager to see what the French will look like.

Niec though, can't wait for the shadows head packs! :D

I emailed GB just two days ago asking about the Indian heads. 'In a couple of weeks' was the reply.

The French have been on Soapy's blog since March, Calimero!!

Them Adrians still look a bit rum to my eye, but I'll probably get some Kepi heads, and colonials.

Hammers, it ain't the Indian heads I'm interested in so much. The Brodies and Wolseleys with neck curtains are what I've been waiting for.

They way they put it it sounded as if they have been waiting to release all heads with some other miniatures. I think they have given up on this and will be releasing the heads anyway. I don't think that means just the Indian heads.

EDIT: Not entirely correct. This is what Darren wrote:

well they were meant to be available when the Indian figs were ready to release. Since they have been delayed I may release the French and Indian Heads early. Keep you eyes on the site over the next few weeks

There is no GJ Joe... only Action Force. (while waving two fingers)

I stand corrected on the Red Shadows though, I thought they were a division of COBRA. Baron Ironblood and Cobra Commander are one and the same person (which is probably why I got confused) but he created COBRA after Action Force defeated his Red Shadow forces.

Very true, hence my comment. Cobra was in the Action Force comics etc though back in the 80's, long before the GI Joe nonsense started being shoehorned in. I think that's about when I stopped playing with them though. It is the Red Shadows I remember most though, just got mixed up on the name :P

So this range is withering on the vine, is it? So much for the grand plans. That's a real shame. If true that has ruined my day. Loads of things I would have bought that they were talking about doing. Oh well, those heads will come in handy for conversions at least.

No, no, no!

He says on his blog that he's lost his sculpting mojo of late, that's all. He did the SF stuff to get back in the flow, so to speak.

Here's a list from the blog with what he's got on at the moment, Beast-wise:

Quote
In the works I have:

French Infantry
French Bombers
French NCOs
Indian Infantry
Indian Bombers
Indian NCOs
Brits in KD Infantry
Brits in serge HMG team
Loads of new heads including:
Aussie slouch hats (flap up)
Aussie Light horse slouch hat with plume
Wolesley helmets with sun shades
Brody helmet with neck flap
Soft cap with havelock
Cap comforters and balaclavas
Bare and wounded heads
Various Scots head dress
Chasseur Alpine beret
Asien corp Seabattalion style helmet

Hope that stops your day going down the toilet Plynkes! :D

I will say this once...

COBRA IS THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ACTION FORCE...

except for the bit in the jungle with SAS Force, the Red Shadows and Hitler... that was brilliant...

I think the link between Cobra and the Red Shadows is as unlikely as the Saddam Hussein-Al Qaeda link.
All those comix and toys putting them in the same camp is neo-con propaganda. ;)
They're all evil bastards though, and had dealings with Hitler in the Amazonian Jungle in the 1980's ;D

Quite right - nevermind this Red Shadow/Cobra sniping- all I can remember is that I used to have the Action Force Sword Fish -

Played with it in the bath with the Q force sonar officer, Deep Sea Defender and space force patroller (somewhat out of his depth). My mate had some SAS stuff and a few red shadow troopers.

Gutted  - don't know where they are now although have a suppressed memory of seeing the sonar officer mauled after the dog had decided to see what he tasted like - still haunts me to this day!

Want some 28mm Action Force figs now...

COBRA had the Crimson Guard, possibly you've confused them with Red Shadows?

The Q force vehicles were great.

See, I liked Cobra and speaking to friends in the pub last night, so did they. Cobra had better vehicles for a start, the Red Shadow flying skull/tiefighter thing was just stupid. Mostly though, even as a kid, I recognised that the Red Shadows were just nazi stormtroopers. Cobra was more interesting.

Cobra hardly had better vehicles as stuff like the Red Shadow Hyena was a repackaged Cobra Venom or Hiss or something and the SAS Force Helicopter was the Cobra Fang... they were just a different colour  lol...

blood for the baron is a great website though with all the toys and what they were derived from... a lot of stuff used GI Joe molds and vice versa in some weird trade agreement... Red Laser was a repainted Cobra Commander if memory serves...

Glad you like them. More 'random sci fi nonsense that I can use for my own lunatic purposes' is being considered.

Oh, and for you WW1 types fear not, I may have got over my slump. The balance of the French and Indian troop packs are being dusted off and finished and most of the new head sprues are awaiting master moulding.

There is even a sprue of 'experimental German helmets with clamshell face armour' available from the Beasty boys upon request for you Shadow fans.

I might have to get some of those.  I've been wanting to make some Cobra soldiers (sorry, that's what I grew up with.  Didn't have Action Force) for a long time now.  Sadly my conversion skills are not that great yet.

Figures arrived today (Great Service!) - and they are very nice in fact have gone straight in at number one on my list of favourite sci fi figures I hope that Soapy can be persuaded to expand the range a bit (couple more riflemen - one an NCO type, a SAW type version of the rifle and perhaps a missile launcher).

The deck crew are good as well.

The top image you posted is of Pulp Miniatures German Zepellin Troops given an SAS Force paint job by Soapy. The SAS guy at the bottom is, I presume, a conversion of a MoFo miniature by Soapy.

Hope that helps.
