This vehicle has provided excellent air defense to Soviet and Russian satellite powers for decades, starting all the way back in the “war of attrition” between the Israelis and the Arab states, in which it held quite a nasty surprise for Israeli pilots used to having everything on their terms.
It’s also been used by those satellites, by the Soviets and Russians themselves, and now even by the Ukrainians AGAINST the Russians, in a ground fire role, as a potent anti-infantry weapon to protect tanks (much as the Duster was pressed into such service in Vietnam). In fact, Shilkas were MVPs in this role in Afghanistan and Chechnya. No one wants to be downrange from four 23mm autocannons!
