Title: Just received Setting the East Ablaze Rules
Post by: Black Burt on September 16, 2022, 12:36:44 PM
I have just received the rules from Caliver books (very quick service :)) and am going to read through them whilst on holiday next week and then hopefully give them a run through in October. I have just finished painting a rather generic force of Copplestone  reds and whites which I started about 10 years ago. No cavalry yet but I will see how the rules go first before I invest in those.

Hi, I will be intrigued to hear what you think of them.  I have v1 and when we played it we found a few idiosyncrasies. I have thought about buying V2 but never got round to it. My mates bought Caliver's "Beyond the Empire" but weren't impressed.

I've been playing some solo games with beyond the empire. I like em but they need some work. I'm thinking about pulling traits from setting the East Ablaze and Fistful of Lead as the trait list is pretty lacking. I really like the core idea of cohesion value but the over excess of tables need some tweaking and trimming. Book needs some better organization too. (Why are tanks split into 2 different addition rules appendix in 2 different parts of the book?)

Let's see those Russians! Fistful of Lead is another good pulp rule set.

I have now tried Setting the East Ablaze rules they are OK  but I'm not sure about them I think I might try Fistful of Lead, Bigger Battles for my next game as I am more familiar with them.

We’re still finalising them, but new air rules, simpler off table rules, revised melee rules (including counter charging options) are three of the main things.  More soon
