Title: ww2 skirmish game similar to drums and shakos?

I have been really enjoying drums and shakos but want to turn my attention to early war WW2 raids and small actions

is there a similar set of rule out there that would work?

If you're referring to Song of Drums & Shakos by Ganesha Games, Flying Lead, from the same author/publisher, would work for this! It uses exactly the same core system.

Alternatively, Crushpop Productions has something called 1944: COMBAT SHOCK, which I have never played, but I like other rules by the same author.

Yes, Flying Lead. It even has WWII squad Character information.
