Hard to resist..... :o
-
Fantastic.
So, Frontier Light Horse then......... (you've now got horses and you already had figures in the braided patrol jacket, surely you just put them together and add a slouch hat? Or something like that :D )
-
Hard to resist..... :o
Indeed!
... are some of them 1 piece casting?
-
lovely, I need a job hate being redundant all those brilliant figures at last and i cant afford them.... :-[
-
These look brilliant,
but at 1st glance i can not help but thing there legs have been shot/torn off!! certainly the first photo
i then notice its there equipment :o
-
The horses are just brilliant!
:-*
-
NOOOOO!!! Do not tempt me with your shiny metal toys… beautiful shiny toys… :-* :-*
-
Hopefully Empress also releases a horse holder to go with these too! :D
Lovely miniatures! :-*
Darkoath
-
I concur, the horses are beautiful.
Helen
-
They are lovely, my favourites of the whole range so far.
-
I like the horses, but I shall not be adding these to my Zulu War collection until a few more releases down the line give me a better idea of what I might add without getting silly about this thing.
I would have prefered to see some Boers myself and, of course, some Zulus in alternate poses which didn't so much remind me of Morris Dancers when I opened the packs. Perhaps an idiocycratic point of view, but I do not feel that there is real power or menace in the Zulu sculpts.
-
exactly what I was waiting for. What a surprise. They look great.
-
Oh dear, looks like another feeezing weekend sitting in a hole so I can afford these. :-*
-
yes I like them. They are lovely.
Now a short question for VSF fans:
Could they do a nice VSF cavalry (in European theaters) or not???
-
vERY nICE. aRE THEY ebob HORSES?
[Edit:]
...
Sorry, people, caps lock. Which, incidentally, reminds me of the following quote from the nerdy but sometimes very funny www.Bash.org, the QDB Quote Database Home page:

They will in my world!!
-
They will in my world!!
No surprises there. ;) lol
-
I think they might travel to VSF India too, to join my other Empress troopers there :D they look great...
-
Can these be used as Natal Mounted Police? I thought so, but I just checked "The First Boer War" and Joseph Lemann describes them as "irregular-looking", with ostrich feathers on their "garish hats".
-

What - a summer holiday in Whitby ?
-
Thanks for the nice comments folks. The horses are by Ebob and the humans by Paul Hicks. They are a perfect match which is not easy and took us all a lot of work to achieve. ::) Huge credit also goes to the moulders Griffin for being able to produce the reins so well.
To answer some of your questions;
They are not 1 piece castings. Rider and horse are seperate.
Horse holders are planned for.
The next group will be the Natal Mounted Police. These should be out fairly soon.
Lastly, sorry to hear about your job problem Itchy. Sure it will get sorted soon. Keep smiling. ;)
-
thanks Empress ,might be able to talk one of my kids into buying me a few packs for xmas....or sell one of the kids fives always seemed a lot lol
-
These look great and will be added to my shopping list. I can also see these guys being transported to Mars to deal with a recent savage Martian uprising where they mobility will prove useful. Once they have taken on my zulus first ;)
Bring on Natal Mounted Police!
Cheers
Fuzzy.

not sure about the Boer war, but during the Zulu War they looked exactly like this
(http://samilitaryhistory.org/vo052cpg.jpg)
and apparently later too
maybe some confusion with the natal mounted natives?
-
Empress, are dismounted command for the Carabineers planned or does the set just released include them?
-

Maybe. Thanks for the picture!

In reference to the officers I am going to be a bit lazy and quote from an answer we gave elsewhere; ;)
"One of the problems with AZW auxilliary cavalry units is that they were very small in number. Some only having about 20 men on campaign. We therefore decided to produce the figures in a way that was directly related to how they were used in the war. Small groups amalgamated into larger commands.
Thus we will produce every unit that was in the war in this manner. The gamer can then create a mixed unit made up of a number of these small 4 man units. We will also produce seperate commanders. Next to be released will be the Natal Mounted Police, then possibly The Newcastle Mounted Rifles, and so on.
We may also sell head sets for these in the future to change figures if you should wish. "
Thus we will produce an officer pack based on a specific commander both mounted and dismounted..
Unfortunatly the illustration is for the 1st Boer War and not the Zulu war. The Zulu war uniform had significant differences. For example helmet spike and badge.
As stated above the NMP are next to be released and should be quite soon so you should not need to convert them. ;)
-
yes, however I read that the badge was covered and the spike removed on campaign
but never mind the sophisticated details
without the uniform colour or cloth type, I think I couldn't tell apart the difference between regular cavalry and these (pic)
what would be the difference between these miniatures (above) and Your NMP?
You can see the NMP in action in the movie "Zulu Dawn"
-
timothy reese's Uniforms of the Anglo-Zulu war (which is a must have)states the Natal Carineers had both helmet spike and a crowned script with NC in white metal, newcastle Mounted Rifles (a similier uniform) were issued with spiked helmets and NMR badge but a photo exisists showing a single man in plain white helmet but there is no evidence that this was an issued helmet. The Natal Mounted Police (again similier uniform) had brass helmet spikes and NMP badge. The main uniform difference between NMP and the carbineers were the shape size of helmet badge and the NMP wore boots that were fastened on the side with straps and buckles and that NMP all wore pistols on shoulder straps.remember that the film zulu dawn , although a great film did have budget problems and there are a number of uniform /weapon mistakes in it. By the way Empress keep up the excellent work ,Thanks
-
I appreciate the sculpting and casting of the Empress miniatures very much, so I second that.
Given the difference between regulation issues and the reality of campaign, too sophisticated attention on minor details like the size of badges etc. is way beyond my approach. (I regard this as reenactor level ;))
I am perfectly content that the Empress cavalry look so fine and am looking forward to more different units to mix up.
I even thought of using Empress SCW nationalist cavalry as Hungarian Hussars in RCW, since the uniforms seem pretty similar to me.
-
thanks Empress ,might be able to talk one of my kids into buying me a few packs for xmas....or sell one of the kids fives always seemed a lot lol
Blimey, looks like you will need to get 2 jobs with 5 nippers :o Maybe sell two of them and you could then have a dedicated games room?
lol
These really are lovely figures and fill a huge hole both in historical and VSF gaming. Who cares if horses didn't live long in East Africa [well, apart from animal lovers, of course] hopefully I'll be getting some as Christmas presents for my Darkest Africa games, along with some Perry Bengal Lancers :D
Lookoing forward to sseing the NMP!
-
Mine arrived today! :-* :-*
Excellent service by Empress who beat the post strike to get them to me in time for the weekend.
-
Ooh, excelent. Any chance they're coming with you Neil?

The Spanish postal service is notoriously slow... ;)
BTW, anyone have any idea what color the sargent's stripes should be painted? I would imagine... white, but have no idea.
-
yep white it is :)
-
Thanks, mate.
Still haven't dug out my old Zulu war books, but I had that feeling.
-
This will make me get on with my infantry so I can justify buying the cavalry!
