Title: ACs
Post by: Hammers on October 19, 2009, 02:23:20 PM
Have we drawn attention to this linky (http://wio.ru/tank/ww1ba.htm)before. A few rather nice images, I think.

The Austin Kegress would be a nice conversion to do.

What are the two small wheels at the front for?
Can this fit on rail tracks? The wheels look a bit close together for that!

Presumably they serve the same purpose as the unditching rollers on White Scout Cars and Half-Tracks in World War Two. It stops the front end digging into the dirt when you go down the steep slope into a ditch.

Don't know for sure, though. Just an idea.

Are we talking about the "Russian Austin" half-track? In that case, the small rollers are indeed trench-/terrain-crossing aids.

There's some great images of various Austin types during the Polish-Soviet War at this (http://derela.republika.pl/austin2.htm) link too (check out the 1939 colour photos of the Austin-Kegresse half way down!).

Thanks Peder for the great linky.

If I'm not mistaken this year could be the year for a number of WW1 armoured cars being released!

Oh, I just found the pictures of the Corps Expeditionnaire des Autos-Canons-Mitrailleuses Belges en Russie (under 'Foreign Armoured Units in Russia' (http://wio.ru/tank/for-rus.htm), in case anybody was wondering).  Very interesting indeed and much appreciated!

Does anybody know if any companies are intending to make a Garford AC in the near future?  I would give serious consideration to amputating body parts in return for such a model! ;D

Now that Doc Midnight will have the Erhardt EV/4 done, the Garford is at the top of my list, too!

(Still patiently waiting for CoB to finish their Austin-Putilov...)

Just to add fuel to the fire, I'd very much like to add a Minerva to our range. Just need to do vehicles from other periods in the next batch, to satisfy various interests.
