I'm currently in possesion of the entire range as it's been released. I wasn't planning on another game, but the draw of having these characters that I so love as a kid, but had just a small collection, of was too big.
I do think I have the most important characters for now.
The models had been sitting there for a while, as I had another project to finish first. I got side-tracked with painting all the scenery in the starter set. Now I can finally sit down and start on this project.
Like many, I am going for the comic/cartoon look with NMM. Something I started experimenting with with Marvel Crisis protocol and I don't really have the hang of yet.
But rather than going for perfection, I'm aiming at enjoying this trip down memory lane.
I have He-man and the convention special with Battlecat painted and ready. Skeletor and Panthor ar primed and ready for some paint. Hoping to finish some more before the end of the year

Woohoo for MOTU! Cool stuff man, really liking what you're doing with these. Can't wait to see more!
-
Love that Battlecat mini - epic pose.
-
I love how you did the ‘helmet’ on the battle cat - it totally gives the impression that the old plastic toy had!
-
Thanks.
I finally finished Skeletor and Panthor. I probably could've done better on these, but as these are my only 2 mini's thus far this year (and I started on them before christmas) I decided "good enough".
I really want to make a dent in my plastic pile this year and I already am planning on buying the Hordak expansion as well, so I need to stop at some point. Still not bad, I think. They'll look cool on the board, once they're all painted up and I am looking forward to painting single characters. Orko already has some of the basecoats applied.

Niyaah...
They look spiffing, old boy! 8)
13 more to go, right?
Having them painted will no doubt improve our gaming experience :D
-
Very cool! We should do a MOTUB sesstion at Poldercon eh ;)
-
Sounds good to me.
I need to step up my painting speed for sure.
Good you mentioned it. It had me check and I hadn't seen it was cofirmed for the 21st of may

Already registered :D

It's been a while since I took pics, but I have been busy.
Kinda in a groove right now. A little less this week due to a kids birthday, but I am slowy getting through my collection.
Unfortunatly this has eroded my impulse controll and had me order wave 3 as well.
I'm just having fun with these bright colours. Hope I keep it up.I'm planning on painting more than just masters of the universe this year.
Orko was painted in just one afternoon which was amazingly refreshing. I love the design of this character. It's goofy and playfull, but I feel it's just hits some undefined sweetspot.

Man-at-Arms.
Man, I wanted this figure as a kid, but I just never got around to owning a lot of MotU as a kid.
It was a great model to paint. All those bright colours. I tried to make sure they didn't clash to much. Meaning I used the blue (which i had already mixed with white) as a shade for the green, the green as a shade for the orange and used the same yellow as a highlight for the orange and green. I really love hoe the mace turned out.
Beastman.
I honestly didn't really like painting his fur. The yellow highlights where a bit of a ^$&2.
Apart from that he was fun. I like the pose and the blue pops.

Sorceress
Time for the ladies. She looks a bit cross eyed. Can't get it fixed and you don'd see it unless you really get close.
I'm very pleased with the white. It looks as clean as it should. The rest of the colours pop as well.
I love the model and the pose and I just think it looks striking in colour. Perhaps my favorite so far.

Teela
Always one of my favorite characters as a kid. I have a thing for warrior woman, starting at a very young age I guess. :D
There was a bit of a disconnect in my head when I saw the model, as it is way more based on the toy than the cartoon and those two itterations have some big differences in design. The cartoon version has more of a brownish tint to it's armour which, in the toy, came back more in the snake armour than the rest of the costume. I wanted both to be represented so I compromised a bit and painted the top of her armour in brown, highlighting with orange.
Also pretty sure I figured out why she wasn't in the core box as I am now painting Evil-Lyn. Both have exactly the same armour. Obviously based on the toys, where they wanted to limit the ammount of expensive moulds they needed to make.
This might feel a bit weird, coming in the same box of mini's, even if it is the right choice for the model design

Great additions especially like Teela.

Awesome work sir. Your colours are perfect - I briefly felt young and carefree again looking at them lol

Many thanks for the kind words.

Having that feeling was mostly my excuse to buy them. MotU was probably the first cartoon that really fired up my child brain. I feel it only existed a pretty short while and I never owned a lot. But I remember vividly drooling over some of the awesome figures in the toystore.

I hadn't seen that picture with the painted models yet. I had been holding of buying wave 3, figuring I mght not need everything for this game. As with most games, I rarely play and mostly paint.
But wave 4 is an instant buy for me. Hordak, Shadowweaver and Grizzlor are classics and the horde trooper was for some reason or the other a figure I always really wanted.
I don't really recall Cathra and the wraiths, but I'm sure to paint them up

*The model is a "Trade exclusive", which means you can buy it at trade shows or in their own webstore at certain times. At the moment it is available until February 26. But as fas as I understood you can't get the model through your FLGS.
-
Love it keep 'em coming.
-
Having seen them in the flesh I can only echo what others have said; great work!
My personal favourite is Teela; I really like how you amalgated the two versions of her into a coherent whole, which looks better than both of the originals 8)
-
Thank you all.
Ordered the entire 4th wave.
I was making a dent in my collection but this means I'll get a lot more to paint for this project in the coming weeks.
As you do...
In the meantime I first finished Triclops.
I did a bit of work on him while struggling with Evil_Lyn and just ended up enjoying painting a relativly easier model first.
I like his green/gold colourscheme.
As I said, Evil-Lyn was a struggle. Not only did I not see where her head was connected on the sprue (I ended up needing to resculpt part of her chest), During painting her staff broke. Twice.
With the pinning and the glueing, she ende up a bit of a frustration, but I am pleased with the end result.
Next up is probably Trap jaw, but I might get side-tracked. I've recently received the entire vallejo xpress speed paint range and I am looking forward to painting my Zombicide with them. I'm hoping to set a record for most painted models this year and currently the plan is to alternate MotU with zombicide.
-
I had the same problem with Evil Lynn and cut off too much plastic:( helped myself with putty.
Your models look awesome! Definitely the Power!
-
Hehehehe, One of us! One of us! One of us! I also clipped off too much when removing her head from the sprue and the staff broke off with mine too lol
But good results man! Great blues on the dame and Triclops his blade is fantastic!
-
Always loved Evil-Lyn cracking work.
-
(More) great stuff! 8)
Here I like Triclops the best I think; something about the colours. Also; your paintjobs are getting better and better!
-
Thanks,
Good to hear I'm not the only one who struggle with Lyn. Fits the character I suppose. Not an woman to cooperate with just anyone.
yeah, I enjoyed Triclops more than I thought. I found I enjoy painting big slaps of meat and muscle. Somehow it seems I find it's easier to see where to put the shade and highlights. Maybe just all those beefed up GW models and such I've painted over the years.
And the jadegreen/gold does look spiffy.
Getting an itch to slap some nice bright colour on some marvel crisis protocol, but today I received a new horde of mini's: Hordak has entered the battleground. Not gonna have a lot of time this weekend to hobby. I'm kinda impressed how they fitted 6 different sculpts, all in different pieces, on such a tiny sprue.
-
Small update:
Currrently sticking together the Hordes box.
Lovely as always. I think the price/quality for this games is outstanding. I've heard some rumors the next wave will contain 3 models/box with Fisto confirmed.
Curious if the price point will remain the same. The smaller(2figure) packs thus far, have come with some scenery additions, so if the plastic isn't increased, the 17 euro price point will be outstanding value for money.
In the meantime I finished Trapjaw. He was fun. I actually painted the metal parts with a solid layer of the new Vallejo xpress paint. I miced up some blue with black and liker the outcome. I did find I needed to add some additional places of highlight to get a more solid NMM look, but the speedpaint effect was impressive.
The rest of the colours make a lovely contrast I think, especially the green and violet aren't colours that I need to paint often and they have a lovely pop against the darker black and blue.

He‘s become a marvelous nasty biter. Love him!
@Motu: I need to buy the waves 3+, but already from my basic set, I must say, the plastics have nearly GW style precision and quality without ever reaching their price tag - even though they had to pay for a license. That’s pretty amazing!
-
Another fantastic effort! Love ole Trapjaw. :D
One tiny thing - maybe just a bit more shadow in his loincloth? The purple on the helmet is great, but the loincloth is a bit flat in tone - unless that's just the photo?
-
Awesome work again! 8)
I like the purple colour, but were those parts not red in the series?

Maybe MotU isn't that expensive to license. It's certainly no star-wars or marvel. But the plastic are indeed fantastic. I think some of the points they selected to connect them to the sprue might be a bit better on one or two occasions but, though I haven't touched any of the new GW plastics, I don't find the detail to be in anyway inferior to anything I've seen GW produce.

Yeah, my fotography skills leave a lot to be desired. ;D
I like the purple colour, but were those parts not red in the series?
I've gone on the artwork from the character card. The cartoon certainly had more red to it. Also the gun and legs where this hue as welll. ::)
Only noticed this because you mentioned it and now I wished I saw it sooner, but I'm too pleased with it's current look to adjust it.
-
I've struggle with making pics of these models for some reason and the ones I've ended up with are still a bit darker than I like.
But It's been a while since I finished scareglow and Ram-man and now I've added Stratos.
Merman is getting paint at the moment to finish the base box and first expension wave.
Scareglow. Who? I really don't recall this character and as such wasn't really looking forward to paintingg him. His glow ended up a particulary nice challenge, however and not something I get to paint a lot. I used GW warpfire glow. Just picked up a pot, not noticing it was a contrast paint. I think these paints have there place, but I prefer to add diferent hues to shades and highlights. I decided to paint the glowing parts yellow and add some blue in the recesses before applying the contrast. I liked the result and ended up adding just a little more highlight. I think he looks rather cool.
Ram-man.
The toy gets a bad rep. It feels cheap and is hardly posable. The "ram" effect is maybe not that spectacular. He is one of the few toys I had (and I still have it). I just love his design. The brutal centurion that just headbutts everything. The big parts of NMM was a challenge, but I decided not to make it to realistic. The suggestion of NMM is enough. We all now the grey in the cartoon was supposed to be iron anyway..
Stratos.
I don't know why I'm just not too crazy about this design. The big parts of grey felled a bit dull.
In the end he wasn't too complecated so it was nice to have a model that was finished in a few relaxed sessions. The red is way brighter Irl.

Great stuff again, and they do look even better IRL 8)
Now stop dallying and paint Hordak's lot! ;D

Cool new stuff! Ram Man is particularly nice!

Excellent and I especially like Ram Man; I think your chosen technique and colours are spot on and take me straight back to weekend mornings!

Thanks again.
This week I finished Mer-man. I wasn't looking forward to this model as he seemed fiddly with a lot of yellow NMM parts.
I ended up enjoying painting him immensly.
I started up with a bit of an experiment that ended up getting me into the groove immidiatly. Having purchased the entire xpress colour range by vallejo, this seemed a good point to use them. I gave the yellow parts a good coating in the darker yellow, followd by sepia. This gave me an immidiate fantastic base for NMM yellow as it required just a bit of hightlighting.
I ended up redoing some part, to make the loincloth look like softer and the trident look like actual sharp and tough metal.
I think this might even have ended up as the best out of the bunch. Once again I am so pleased with the popping colours.
There's some wet black paint still on the base. I was impatient to get a picture.
He is going to be the last for a short while. I do have the horde box, wave 3 and the dinosaur expension to be done left. But for now, as some new X-men models have been announced, Marvel Crisis protocol sirens call is becoming irresistable. I've primed some old favourites and do something different first.
I'm sure to return to Eternia beofre long though. It has been a fantastic experience to paint so far.
-
Superb!

Can't wait game with (or against) him tomorrow 8)
Oustanding work on the NMM; you're getting good at this!

Awesome, a great advert for the game (and express colours).

Mer-Man has come out a treat you can be very pleased with that one. Think the colour choice is perfect whilst still being a homage to the original toy and character.
-
I'm now setting up the game for a re-match.
Last week ended in a hard fought draw. Not a lot of characters taken down, but the objectives kept us on our toes.
I made two list that I felled where balanced. Fliing it with some of the more Iconic characters. I had to add the show special models of Panthor an Battlecat.
A roll of decided Daeothar would play the heroic forces of Eternia and I was taking the role of the evil warriors. Nyaaaaah...
As fitting for the hero of the show, He-man and his faitfull feline friend held the center. He really was tanking everything I was throwing at him, tying up Merman, Evil_lyn and trying to stop Skelletor from breaking through and reach the objectives.
Caught of guard by the sorceress' speed, the evil warriors quickly regrouped and stopped her an Teela from a fast and well planned steal of the first objective. If it wasn't for Evil-Lyn's force blast the objective would've been lost immidiatly. Teela eventually fell to the fury of beast-man, but held her own for longer than anticipated, costing me vital glory points, as I was sure I would take her down in round 3. I barely got her down in round 4. This did score me the objective as well, however. Skelletor broke free from the ranks and had scored a second.
On the other side of the battlefield, He-man had scored one on his way to the center.
Luckily Daeothar was having his usual luck with the dice and his own gambit to score on a glorycard did not pay of at all. At the end of the battle, non of the Evil warriors where taken down.
All was not lost, however, as the sorceress proved near unstoppable. It was either let her race through the battlefield towards objectives or weaken my line of defence. I did try some desperate attempts to slow her down, but it was too little too late. With Daeothar having one objectve more than me and me taking out Teela, the point difference was negligable. It ended in a draw. Skelletors plans once again foiled by that muscebound buffoon.
Tonight we'll switch sides.
-
a good read. Thanks for the report. The mines are great
-
Yeah; that was a great game 8)
But it had nothing on yesterday's rematch, switching sides. Too bad there are no pictures of that, because it was epic!
As in every game we have played so far, there were 5 objective points on the board. Two each in both deployment zones and one in the center of the board. But the two in your own deployment zone were non-scoring for you.
I deployed my Skeletor (riding Panthor) and Evil Lyn in the center, Beastman on the left flank and Merman on the right flank.
My idea was for the two flankers to get to the objectives on the far side, and the center elements to quickly grab the middle one and then fall back to defend the objectives on my side of the board.
And that's basically what happened.
Skeletor, going first, grabbed the center objective in the first turn, pretty much unopposed. Beastman and Merman both ran forward, using cover on the flanks and Evil Lyn hung back, using her magic to put a curse on ManAtArms, who was skulking around a bit of cover on the other side of the objective.
On the opposite side, Heman hung back a bit in his deployment zone, doing some buffing up stuff (probably just making his pecs dance a bit and annoying Battlecat), the sorceres doled out some blessings and edged forward, while Teela moved up a lot faster towards the objective in the left of my zone. Both of them were on my left flank, but intervening terrain shielded them from both Beastman, Skeletor and Evil Lyn.
At the end of the turn, Skeletor had secured the first objective in the middle, and I felt quite confident things were going to plan.
Turn two, had me run Merman further up the board, staying in cover all the time, while ManAtArms moved to intercept. But he was a long way off still.
Beastman ran around a corner and headbutted the sorceress in the nose, keeping her from advancing and blessing. In the meantime, Skeletor retreated (as he would), rounded a corner and made it into combat with Teela. But both his and Panthor's attacks were feeble, and Teela held on strongly.
This left Heman to deal with Evil Lyn. He used his mumbojumbo powers to basically blaze across the entire board and easily made it into combat with hapless Lyn. She may be a (pale) looker, but the's about as tough as a warm stick of butter up close, so that went predictably bad for her.
However; she hung on for dear life till the end of the turn. Things were still going according to my cunning plan, but Eternia's goodytwoshoes were putting the pressure on.
Third turn had Merman dash over to the rightmost objective and claim it. The position of ManAtArms made it so that he remained in cover from that gun nut at all times though, so all was goodevil.
Heman then reacted to Evil Lyn and gave her a fatal smackdown, putting my magic artillery out of commission. Nyaaa!! He then proceeded to attack Skeletor in the back, like the fur thong-wearing backstabber he is. But Skeletor held on for dear (un)life.
Beastman b*tchslapped the Sorceress back to where she came from, evening the odds again and moved towards the third objective, now just a mere few hexes away. But Teela, seeing her bestie getting pulped by Beastman, disengaged from Skeletor to pursue my hirsute hero, getting booted in the behind by Skeletor in the process, but not enough to make her stumble.
So the fourth and final turn began.
Merman ran out towards ManAtArms, who was already eying up Beastman in the distance. So he did his swampy magic and created a large patch of rough terrain at the feet of ManAtArms, right between him and Beastman. He then moved out of cover to take a potshot at him, simultaneously drawing the focus away from ManAtArms, as he was forced to react. But Merman, still being at full health easily weathered the shot and then used his freeze ray to effectively immobilize ManAtArms. Yes!
Heman continued to beat up Skeletor, but old skull face managed to weather all that he could dish out. It hurt though. Another Nyaaa!!
Skeletor did the same to Heman, but with predictably less epic results.
Then ManAtArms used his sniper rifle to shoot Beastman. Twice. However, this only resulted in the evil muppet getting more angry. But this also hurt. A lot.
Then Teela got into combat with Beastman and hurt him some more. he struck back and at that point, at the very end of the final turn, both combatants were down to just a single healthpoint.
Beastman was just two hexes away from the third objective, and could not reach it because of his being in combat with Teela.
I held two objectives, against Voivod's zero, but he had managed to meet the requirements of his two epic fate cards, turning the entire brawl into another draw.
HOWEVER!
Just as we were about to tally up and end the game, I realized that because Beastman was grievously wounded, he received another activation! It all hung in the balance now; accept the status quo and go with another draw, or go for broke and try to disengage from Teela.
She would get a free strike, which Beastman had to survive. If he survived though, he would be able to collect the third objective and secure the win for evil, but if she hit him, he would be down and victory would go to Heman's forces.
Ah what the heck, right? I went for it; all or nothing. Teela rolled to hit and did so with 4 out of 5 dice; because it was a free strike, she hit at 3+.
I then rolled for Beastman's not insignificant physical defense and rolled 3 successes of 4+, one of which was a 6. And in this game, a result of 6 allows for an extra die to be rolled, but this succeeds only on a 5+.
I rolled another 6...
Beastman succesfully weathered Teela's feeble swipe and made a leap towards the third and final objective. Victory to Skeletor's forces; evil had prevailed (for once)! NYaaa!!!
This was by far the most tense, actionpacked and fun game of MotU I have played so far. It all came down to the very last diceroll of the entire game! Just plain epic :D
This would have made for one heck of an episode, were it not that Skeletor never got to win in the cartoons of course... ::)
-
It has been a while, as I have been focussing on other project and some real-life stuff, but with the new fight against evil box set coming out I felled like doing some MotU again.
The great rebellion is a bit weird. The collection doesn't feel complete without She-Ra and her companions. As a kid I was allready a bit confused by how Mattel handled this. It was obviously an attempt to get some girls into MotU and the cartoons mostly felled the same, with mostly some even brighter colours. But the toyline was completely different, with different outfits and hairstailing products. It felled like Barby with swords. Weirdly enough She-Ra's main enemies, the Evil Horde, was released as more foes for He-Man to fight.
I didn't much care, as the cartoon was just as fun as the main one. And I practically watched anything animated, growing up with a slightly younger sister.
Still, I don't have the same feeling with this line. I don't really recall anyone besides the main cast, so I might just end up painting this box and call it a day.
First an easier one. Glimmer is one of the first characters introduced in the same cartoon as She-Ra. She wasn't to difficult, which is always nice. The artwork in the box (some of the worst Archon has ever made so far) showed her with purple hair, but the cartoon had it bright pink, so that's what I went for. Not much to say. Fun and easy. I ended up painting the staff in a NMM, just to get some more colour differantiation in the model.
And her mother, Queen Angella, also introduced in the pilot. I enjoyed painting the bright pink. Not a colour I get to play around with much. I also hadn't painted any angelic model in my entire career in the hobby and painting her wing was fun. I added some very light purple and blue on the wings in the recesses before painting over it with dilluted xpress colour white. The effect is subtle, but worth it I think. I am very pleased with the sword. I had allready finished it and was just browsing youtube before calling it a night, when I stumbled upon a new technique and ended up re-doing it in about 5 minutes for a much better result.
I have batch painted all the skin of the models in the box, plus the convention exclusive She-Ra and Swiftwind. Planning on finishing this in the coming weeks.
The colours one these is even brighter than the other characters and the Marvel mini's I have been painting the last years. I do enjoy it and it would be nice to finish of an entire faction again.
-
Having seen these in the plastic, I can confirm that the pictures don't do the paintjobs justice.
Especially the sword is really nice 8)
It'll be fun to get a game in with/against them...
-
I didn't really recall much about this character, but Frosta was great to paint. Playing around with different hues of blue, made her a really interesting challenge. I really like her colour scheme. the cold colours really contrasts with her skin tones.
Setting: the design studio of mattel in the 80's.
Dude1: We have to decide on names for these girl characters for our new range. So the first one has the powers of a scorpion. Thoughts?
Dude2: How about Scorpia?
Dude1: Awesome. So this one has frost powers.
Dude2: Frosta?
Dude2: You're on a roll. So this one can cast spells.
Dude2: Cast...aspella.....?
Dude1:.... Holy Crap , you're a Bloody genius....!
I didn't much enjoy this one, for the most part. The spinning disk just looks a bit weird. It was kinda fun to paint the bright yellow, but it is meant to glow and I just really couldn't be bothered with the required object source lighting to get a good effect. In the end, when I just pushed the contrast on her hair and the blue of her costume, it did feel like it kind of clicked into place and was more pleased with her than I expected I would be. The name just remains baffling. I know the entire range has names that are extremely cheesy, but I think we have a clear winner in Castaspella.

Brillant! :o

Thank you.
Bo. As a kid I always thought the hearth on his chest was a bit much. I didn't know the word, but I understood that as He-Man had a "token woman" in Teela, She-ra, as a "girl" cartoon had a token guy. And he was fine mostly. The hearth just gave me my little pony vibes. A swachbuckling sharpshooter, what's not to like. Well, I'm not sure what happened, but the eyes on the sculpt are absolutely bulging. Far more that any model I have ever seen and it makes him look like he just trusted a fart more than he should....
Pity I really like how his pants ended up. Just glad the cape covers up any possible mishaps.
I do feel like I'm getting the hang of NMM. He was fun. A shame the eyes are beyond my skills to fix.

That just leaves the Princess Of Power, herself, including the version with her stalward steed. I'm making progress on her and enjoying it so far. Not sure how much Time I will be getting this week

I had the same thoughts about this guy back in the day. Even back then I recognized the archetypes they put into every cartoon (hero/leader, trusty second, dimwit tank, scrawny brainiac, little creature/comic relief), but I ate it up like a good consumer of course ::)
You did a good job on him; sculpting messes can sometimes be camouflaged with painting, but some are just too extreme. I'm curious to see for myself in the flesh/plastic tonight. And you're absolutely rocking that NMM these days!
...Not sure how much Time I will be getting this week
Not tonight, at any rate, oh mister DM... :D

For the honour of Grayskull!!
She-Ra was a but daunting, but I am so happy with how she worked out. I'm getting the hang of painting white, which I always dreaded, and she's a combination of white, yellow, and NMM. something I used to think would be hell to paint. I also needed to differentiate between the gold of her tiara and her goldenblond hair. I usually take a lightbrown as base for blond hair, but decided to go for a slightly less realistic, strawberry blond. It's a cartoon after all. I don't even think it turned out so unrealistic.
I feel like I become more happy with my NMM with every new project I paint.

Swiftwind was mostly great, once I got over the initial dread of all that white and having to paint another She-Ra. I painted both versions of her at the same time, as well as any colours that where repeated on her stalward steed. The bright colours where fun. Colours I am unlikely to use often and I love how the pop. I did take steps to try and get them not clash to much, meaning I highlighted them all with ice-yellow and trtied to get some red in al the shades (even if mostly mixed with some blue.)
It's an absolute eye-catcher of a model, I think.

The great rebellion is done. Ready to take on Hordak and his evil minions.
When they are done cowering, safely in the box they arrived in at least....

Awesome collection and work on those!
I wanted to get this game, but it’s almost impossible to find in Canada.

Thanks,
Archon did not have the license to sell the game abroad from europe, but that's gonna change soon.
They will have a crowdfunder on gamefound any day now for 2 new faction boxes.
This was part of the new deal and from than on, other countries will be able to get the game no problem.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna jump aboard. I like the Snake-men and Kobra-Khan was one of the figures I used to have, but the preternian heroes do not interes me at all.
Still, if the deal is good enough, I might bite.

Archon's production is top notch. I really dig a lot of the stuff they are doing. I allready backed, and received, their Heroes of Might an Magic 3 boardgame and am really interested where they will be going with the new laser-painted scenery is going. They certainly seem a company to watch.
-
Not the most exiting update, but I do like how it turned out.
I have some scenery for the game painted up. This wasn't something I was particulary looking forward to, but it ended up a nice relaxed paintjob. I really like how the colours on the magickal forrest pop and the cursed woods look nice and gloomy.
These are, offcourse, the pieces found in the great rebellion and Hordaks' Horde boxes, respectively

Been a while, but I am attempting to get a dent in my remaining models before Archon delivers my gamefound pledge. They threatend to deliver early so I need to get a move on.
I know the above text isn't the real one but it should have been. Fisto wasn't my favourite, but a mainstay of the masters of the universe crew. He was relatively easy and fun to gets something done quickly to get me out of the rut.

Unlike the horde troopers. I loved this design as a kid and vividly remember holding a blister of these longingly, hoping my mom would take pity and buyi it for me. She never did and that's how I ended up the way I did.
I wanted to do them justice and I think I did. This is the second attempt. The first try I started with to dark a base-colour.
I do think looking at these, that I really made some strides in my nmm. Looking at my first models in this threat, almost two years ago to the day, there's a significate improvement.
Hope I keep this mojo going for the year. I need 1 more model to hit my goal of 100 models in a year. Granted many of these were for my Worms boardgame and some quick undead, but at least I had a bit of a productive year.

Voivod,
Those Horde troopers look excellent - teleports me straight back to (the massive aisles of potential in) Toys’R’Us of the 80’s.
Keep up the great work,

This thread is an absolute joy! And those Horde troopers look great.
Don't remember ever encountering the Horde troopers in my childhood, but MotU only made it to 1980s Aotearoa New Zealand in drips and drops.
-
What a great thread! Major nostalgia.
Great work on making all the figures really pop with the colour choices.
-
Oooooh I missed some of your updates. Excellent stuff man, I REALLY love those Horde troopers. Perfect mix of the nice blueish grays and vibvrant reds. Awesome!!
-
Wow, these are great!
I missed buying the range at my local shop… sad.
-
Thanks everyone.
The nostalgia is the biggest draw. MotU isn't really my favourite IP to exist, but it certainly is the first one I remember fanboying over as a kid and droolingover all the fantastic toys. Many an hour was spend just looking at the pamhlets from the toystores and fantasising how wonderfull it would be to play with them.
I'm still hoping Archon will release certain models. I'll be receiving some bigger models the beginning of next year, but I feel my collection will not be complete without Snoutspout, Man-tenna or Modulok.
And they really. really, really need a Zoar model. Man I wanted that bird.
Just a quick update today, as I painted Shadowweaver. I picked her for two reasons. I don't have an enormous memories of the She-Ra series, but she is one of the characters I could still vividly remember her voice. The other one is she is a relativly easy paintjob and finishing her means I've hit my anual goal of painting 100 models.
Sure, about 36 of these where simple worms for worms the boardgame ( https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=147359.msg1886346#msg1886346 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=147359.msg1886346#msg1886346) Shameless plug) and some quickpaints on undead (nearly finishing my 6th edition warhammer fantasy vampire counts army, from when those rules where still valid)
But I painted a hundred miniatures
Shadowweaver wasm fun. I painted her nearly in one sitting. I enjoyed her robes. Highlighting a deep red with pinks and white is not normally the route I take, but I think it turned uot nicely for her. The art from Archon showes her with the greenish on her hands in her face, but I opted for the more true to cartoon yellow eyes against black and I'm glad I did.

This one took me way to long, because I got ambitious.
You see, I saw this guy adding smoke and lighting to the already completely unnecesary Grayskull Dicetower.
My wife wanted to gift me something, so I orderd some show specials from archon and couldn't help myself from adding this model to the basket. When she saw how giddy I got when I sub-assembled it, she immidiatly decided this would be part of her gift as well.
The model looks great and really took me just an hour or 2 to completely paint. It was the resculpting of the back, to allow me to fit the entire smoke-machine, that was daunting. I pulled it off. It isn't pictured, but I just increased the rockformation on the central tower with some milliput.
The smoke and light works with a little remote. It's completely superfluous, but man I think it's cool.
Here's it working in all it's glory.

As with the rest of the thread, fantastic, and to be honest it was clearly worth the effort- it adds very nicely to the cool of it.
Well done!

I think you may have ruined every project I’ve ever attempted or even just considered…….. :o
It was worth it.

It's an awesome piece of work, one you're rightly proud of. And you did it without any assistance too! 8)
Playing MotU @ Voivodstein will never be the same now :D
-
So totally unnecessary on a totally unnecessary piece and it's absolutely glorious!!! This is what makes a geek happy, getting those childhood vibes. It's the essence of what we wanted as a kid and what we saw in our heads when we played with our toys. 11/10 man!

Thanks all,
It was quite worth it. It's certainly a centerpiece in my display case.

I think we should have another game with this soon. Maybe give me time to paint up the Horde first. Gives me some incentive and than we can try out two completely nmew factions.

Isn't it. I can't wait to receive my landshark and the Talon fighter. Those are gonna look so good next to this.

Ahahahahah, that's wild as hell.
-
Now, add sound, too.
HE-MAN!!

That is the greatest thing I have ever seen. Ever.
Just gorgeous. I missed out on the MOTU when it was available briefly here in Canada; hopefully it will make its way back with a second run or something. So much nostalgia…

Part of the nostalgia is adding sound effects myself, just like when I was playing with the toys.

Archon has run a gamefound campaign when they acquired the license to make the game for countries outside Europe.
I had an update today that they're expecting to start the fullwillment phase later this month. After that Battleground should hit retail all over the world.
I must say that I find the game good value for money. It's not too cheap, but overal I'm finding character packs for abour 17 euro's for 2 characters or a faction box with 5 models and loads of other plastic for under 40.

Great work!

Finished 2 more this week. Archon is going into fulfillement of the crowdfunder the coming weeks, so my plans of finishing everything before the new batch arrives is probably of the table, but I got a little done.
Some bad girls for the Horde.
I didn't remember either of these character. As I said, She-Ra didn't air nearly as long as He-man did.
I did rewatch some of the cartoons though and they are both introduced in the very beginning.
Scorpia (Really those naming conventions...) was interesting as she had a lot of red tones and I felled like I should distinguish between all of them. I think I succeeded. I also went heavy on the eye-shadow for both characters. Which is a hallmark for 80's evil ladies, it seems (Gem's Misfits, anyone?)
Cathra was pretty basic. I enjoyed the different colours. She's pretty vibrant character with these and I enjoy the look.

Cool man, nice reds! I'm also doing Catra now and ...urgh...really dislike the pose. It's so hard to reach some places for painting, not enjoying it a lot :D
-
Yeah, she was a tough cookie to crack.
But you know....
can't really expect a lady with a whip to make it easy on ya.... lol
-
Quick update. Didn't really enjoy Grizzlor much. Too few vibrant colours, which is my jam. Given up on trying to finish everything before Archon delivers on their crowdfunder as it appears they're gonna be early, which is kind of unique.
Still, I think he enden up okay and won't mind fielding him. The crossbow on his back was a pain and got in the way during painting.
Sorry I didn't do a sub-assembly there.

Brilliant stuff Voivod! How many more do you have to paint? How are you finding the game? Does it have good replay value? It’s seems you and Daeothar have enjoyed it so far, it looks to me to be a more fun version of Warhammer:Underworlds (not a bad game but the early version was quite repetitive).

Thanks. I think I have less than 10 mini's to go right now, and I have the complete range.
Archon is going to send me about 20-something more in a little while.
I don't play nearly as often as I wish, as per usual, I think, but the game has plenty of replay value for me.
You need about 4 mini's a side, 5 or six if you go minion heavy, so there's plenty of room for list building.
The only real gripe I have with the game is I don't particulary like building fate-decks. I just feel like it's to complicated for too little gain.
The models are great and I think good value, compared to a lot of stuff on the market these days and they don't pump out expansions in a rediculous rate. It feels doable to keep up.
Characters have enough flavour and different abilities to make adding them to your force open up new strategies and tricks.
The different forces also feel different enough.

You'd think receiving a large box of goodies would put some fire in me, but my painting has been on an absolute zero the last few months.
Archon's crowdfunder was fantastic and I reveived an amazing ammount of goodies.
I also realised harder than ever my collection is reaching a point where I really need to make some decisions. For now Battleground is still firmly one of the games I'll keep working on.
Hordak has been on my desk half-finished for ages and I noticed, thus far, I only really enjoyed painting She-Ra's mounted version.
The model is great. Hordak's mantisaur is a lovely weird creation. It just had so much NMM and unreachable parts.
It took me ages and I'm happy it's finished. Hoping to focus on some simpler projects for a while.

Even if it was a bit of a struggle, the end result is more than worth it. Lovely classic animated series vibe.
Your collection is outstanding.
