Hi All,
After fleeing the war 9 months ago hobby stuff was not on the top of my list, but I had some things in my home country, and cobbled together some tools and materials and so.... I can restart my Last Days/Zona Alpha/Across the Dead Earth project! Last year I bought some Black Site Studio buildings and was able to pick them up when I saw my mom in the US. So... please to enjoy!
-
Nice ruined-looking suburban or small town buildings! I'm doing Post-Apoc, too. I just need to fight off my cheapskate desire to make them usable for other periods and to truly make them ruined. lol
Glad to hear you're getting settled and able to get back into the hobby...

Looking good, can't wait to play on it very soon.

Thank you for all the kind comments! It's been a.... challenging year, but even more so for so many others. My family is very very lucky. International family, and one of my countries is very committed to keeping families together. So my wife received her 5 year visa last month and we can apply for her citizenship in 3 years!
These are the Black Site Studio buildings. The upsides, they are fairly robust, two layer walls is standard for inside and out. Some of the details are less so, and some of the cuts... well it's impossible not to see stuff just snap off. But it is what it is, and this is PA so it's easy to hide breaks as if they were intentional. There were also miscuts in every kit, some more problematic than others. You can see that one window, or one wall would not match up, slightly higher or lower when the laser came around to complete the cut. Also, some things just didn't make sense. They show window panes are to be added, provided the panes, but cut them way way too small, like 1/4" too small.... For the price of the kits, I'd expect less errors. Maybe once on one kit, but not across several.... All of the interior walls are baby blue. But the paint serves as a primer and they take paint well. Shoe polish works like a charm on the floors. Overall I'm happy with the kits and can recommend them with the aforementioned caveats.
I went to the equivalent of a 99 cent store here and got 4 perfectly sized vehicles, so I'll hit them with some color to weather them up. Then its on to the minis! This happened by consequence, but I have to say when I embark on new projects I intend to build terrain first. I can't tell you how many projects I have started, bought minis and terrain, and then once the minis were done, I moved on.... This way, terrain is done up front, then I'm still charged to do the minis, and the project completes!
-
Nice work on the buildings. I particularly like what you've done with the building with the damaged tin roof :-*

Nice work TBC especially like the objective tokens…I use a bunch of those 6-packs in my own set 8)
Shamefully I dont recognise the zombie on page 1 … which company is it from?
-
There you go! 8)
Like those objective markers. Somebody will find that that flamethrower might be quite handy...

Love the objective markers. Piles of 'stuff' - my favourite thing.

He's from Mantic's Walking Dead set. Nice exaggerated details make them fun to paint. It's a mix of contrast and highlighting.

Hi All,
Been busy with work, but finally got to my village square terrain piece.
-
The other side….
-
What a perfectly lovely little square. Well, except for that wrecked Blackhawk, that is...I'm sure that ruined someone's day... :o

Sample layout, what I have so far….

That looks great, the burnt area on the tree next to the wrdck is a nice detail.
-
Agreed. The scorched area around the downed 'copter is a fantastic touch.
Is all of this on a 2x2 mat? 3x3?
-
That's an amazing tabletop.
-
Thanks for all the nice comments! I admit the tree and burnt area came to me as I was finishing up. It just seemed to make sense... lol :D
The table is 3x3, I play mostly Last Days with this, but obviously any rules work. I'm also going to give Zona a try, with an Amero flavor.
-
It's hard to see, but I was thinking and thinking, "Who does the Blackhawk belong to??" Then it hit me... It's a 'black chopper' from conspiracy theory fame :D
-
Looks great :)

Thank you!
-
Yes, it does indeed look great all put together. Now for a battle report?... :D
-
Great, very atmospheric! :)

A wonderful table so far! 8)
I love the fac that the modules and houses laid out like that form the streets and roads all on their own.
-
Walking Dead scary 🙀

Thanks Chaps! Getting ready for a game tomorrow!

The Home Gang, Frey and his crew os ex state police, came onto the Old Shoreham army reserve base to loot and came across some interlopers. The outsiders got themselves into trouble with some zeds, and we made things worse for them!

Thanks guys! Those Dust huts are a real gem, sorry i only had one box….

Working on another house….
I got a hold of a Damaged Emmas Diner, Playground and the large Woodbury Rise house from 4 Ground. Gosh, nothing left…..
-
Crap, I misplaced the little door lintels to finish up the Miller House, so…. Onto Emma's Diner while I wait for replacement parts…..
Trying put using 1mm cork sheet for asphalt. I like!
-
These are looking great. Particularly like the cork/asphalt idea. Stealing that unashamedly.

That diner is looking awesome. :-* Great centerpiece for a table.
I agree, cork does a fine job as asphalt. I recommend dry brushing the white lines for the parking lot with ordinary paint. The low-lying areas it misses will make the paint look worn and faded.
Here's an example from my asphalt roads...

What FEMA code have you put on that building?

-
Thanks! It's my version of the S&R codes they used on buildings during hurricane Katrina 20 years ago. I just modified them to my use :D
-
Thanks for sharing the codes- I’ve no doubt I’ll find a place for them some day… :D
And the buildings look truly amazing, fantastic work! :-*
-
More excellent work, very impressive.
-
Nice work on that house. I like the addition of the S&R code...well done!

Well, I apparently left a treasure trove of post apoc stuff in Russia…. And can bring most of it back this trip! Spent the holidays with my wife's family. So had the time to inventory, and an empty suitcase earmarked. Unbuilt mdf, tons of scatter, minis, plus brining back my Mantic stuff from the original KS. Going to be a BIG post apoc year for my games!
-
TBC looking good, I really like the farm house with porch, looks great with the writing on it too!
Keep going!

Thank you so much Matt! Its been a fantastic project to work on. I plan to finish the last house after the holidays and have 4 kits from Black Site on the way, plus more to bring home from storage! Stay tuned!

Happy Holidays, and I look forward to more cool stuff from you in 2024...!

Thank you Mike! A very happy holidays to you as well! And….!!
Any of the old time LAF'ers remember the short lived Scavenge, Skirmish and Survive? It was a nuclear winter zombie PA game started by a small press about a decade ago. I loved the idea and bought the line. And…. I just found it all! So I'll be doing Last Days in a winter theme too!
Plus I found a KS of dead domestic animals, farm and pet plus some wild. They are all corpses and will look great on the table as scatter!
2024 will be my Year of Zombies!

You mentioned 20mm over in the Roswell '98 thread. The tables in this thread are 28mm, correct? Am I mis-reading the scale here?

No, you are correct, these are my 28s, but my first go at this was using Dark Future minis in 20mm.

I really enjoyed silent invaders SSS, I did a retheme to fallout/desert and played a lot of rounds to it. I've still got the photoshopped character cards on my Dropbox I believe. If you check my old post apoc thread you should find the link in there TBC. ;)
If you want to keep your basing materials the same. ;D
It was wonderfully deadly, those snowstorms/sandstorms were violent, and the big guns (smg and machine guns) were very punchy. Most of my games ended with only a few men left at the end of the game hiding or running away. Very simple rules too, you didn't need a thick manual of rules. I then tried pulp alley as it seemed to offer a more dynamic play with jumping and driving vehicles but never quite felt like home like SSS did. Hardly anyone died haha.
There was a particular moment one SSS game where one of the children characters was pushed back somehow, which resulted in him falling down the stairs of the RocketMart, and he died as a result. Neither of us could believe what just happened in game it was ridiculously funny.
Reach out to Silent Invader, his website may still be up with all the rules and stuff.
Cheers

Thanks Matt, I'll def check it out! I LOVE the idea of a nuclear winter type game. Very different!
Playing around with my rural board. I think to paint the house, from Pat's Laser Cutting, as burned out. The roof comes off, but there are no rooms inside, so Ill model the interior with a collapsed second floor. The model is very nice, but closer to 25mm rather than 28/32. I have a barn to go with it as well. The matt and fields are from my Saga game, but work well here. I also have trees to add and dead animals. Looking forward to 2024 gaming!
-
Nice!
If you ever fancy a somewhat bigger house to an almost identical design then there's an O gauge one doing the rounds on ebay and Etsy:

Looks good so far. Need some fences, though, even if the house is burned down... ;)
