Day 1 of this weekend's British Lead Adventurers Meeting (BLAM), and today I was privileged to take part in the inaugural outing of Senor Malamute's fantastic San Antonio de Bejar board, for a game featuring Malamute's equally fantastic new range of Zorro figures.
As I managed to snap off a few pics in the course of the game, here they are, with my slightly garbled account of the action ;)
With Malamute presiding, the players were:
Thunderchicken: The wicked Governer and party
Jollybob: El Zorro!
Driscoles: El Capitan + Presidiales
Captain Blood: Sargento Garcia + Presidiales
SvennnDHnut: The Seguin family of vaquero-bandidos
Gamer Mac: Davy Crockett and other assorted Gringo treasure-hunters...
The scenario was pretty simple - in the town of San Antonio De Bejar, the feelthy peons are queueing up to pay their taxes to the wicked Governer.
Zorro is aiming to relieve the forces of repression of their loot to redistribute it to the poor. He's also after a smooch with the Governer's daughter.
Meanwhile two roving gangs also hit town hoping for a shot at the tax collection - Davy Crockett and assorted Texian compadres, and a villainous looking gang of vaquero types...
The rules were a cut down version of LOTOW, with a few spontaneous interpretations and additions by our esteemed Gamesmaster....
Here's how it went...
The feelthy peons queue up to pay their taxes...
While the Governer, his lovely daughter (or is it his grandmother?), and El Colonel watch from a safely hygenic distance on a balcony overlooking the square...
Meanwhile, whilst Sargento Garcia and a squad of brave (ahem... ) Presidiales patrol one corner of the town...
Davy Crockett and a bunch of Texian Ne'er-do-wells, sneak in another...
Whilst some ugly looking vaquero characters (albeit wearing superbly painted blankets) swagger across the square in front of the church...
Quite a lot of action ensued - most of which I failed to capture on camera as my Presidiales were far too busy firing inaccurately, reloading, falling off ladders, running backwards and forwards a lot, firing again, and generally failing to hit anything.
Suffice to say, Davy Crockett and co met a fast and sticky end at the hands of Driscoles' Presidiales.
The vaquero-bandidos fared better, wiping out El Capitan's squad - but neither got anywhere near the loot because...
Guess who?
Caramba! It's Zorro!
In a pure Hollywood routine, he thundered into view...
Dodged the flying musket balls of my gallant Presidiales (although I did manage to shoot the peasant girl who got in the way - so that's something)
Thundered across the square (still dodging the bullets from my Presidiales lining the rooftops...)
Vaulted into his saddle, and leapt up on the balcony to steal a kiss from the Governer's lovely elderly female relative...
Leapt down again to engage in furious swordplay with El Capitan and Los Presidiales... (sadly, you can't actually see this derring-do in this picture, 'cos the scenery got in the way... )
Then vaulted back onto his horse, swept up the chest of loot, and thundered off down a side alley - impervious to the hail of shot poured into him at point blank range by my myopic troopers lining the rooftops and chasing after him...
Our hero thundered once around the square in a lap of honour, reared up in spectacular style, and thundered off into the sunset.
Actually, I did finally manage to wing the blighter as he galloped out of sight, but nothing was going to stop him today :)
And here, for the record are a couple of views of some (but not all) of the protagonists.
I trust they don't mind their identities being revealed. Too late now :D
Malamute the impresario, Svennn the bandido and Jollybob the Fox (actually JB appears to be suffering megalomanic delusional schizophrenia as he thinks he is both Spartacus and Zorro... )
Gamer Mac looks on ruefully as Davy Crockett's expedition bites the dust of San Antonio. Malamute commiserates (possibly... )
All in all, a fast, furious, and bloodthirsty game, which played out in true Hollywood style. You couldn't have made it up, really...
Well done Malamute - superb terrain, superb figures, and a really entertaining game...
And well done Jollybob - Zorro won.
(Well of course he did - who would have had it any other way?)
-
and you thought cutting your troops medical scheme to save money was a good idea ;D
-
FANTASTIC :o :o :o :o :oOf course Zorro has to win the game but if you're playing in that set up who cares!! Hope everyone had fun.I watched that town come together on the workshop board but i did'nt realise how big the individual models were. Great stuff!!It's also good to have some faces to put to names! Thanks for posting so quickly
-
Wow, amazing table! 8)
Sounds like a great game too. Nice to see all your work come to fruition :)
-
Guys, well done in getting together and showing us this wonderful adventure.
Thank you,
Helen
-
Very envious! :-*
What a beautiful game in all respects. The miniatures look superbly painted and the terrain is masterclass.
That black clad Z sure is impressive on that stallion!
Well done Nick and to everyone else - you lucky bastards.
By the way where is a picture of the Captain? ;)
-
Beautiful looking game , must get my figures painted !
-
Words fail me... (and that's no mean thing lol)
I hope Malamute will get his webshop up soon...
Great stuff! BTW, I see it was a non-alcoholic event... :D
Rudi (a Shiba Inu without webshop)
-
Wow, beautiful setup and game. Well of course Zorro won, he isn't the fox for nothing you know!
What was used for those wicker baskets in the forth picture, by the way? They look good and I could use some.
:-*
-
what a storming little game.
everything was awesome

Top notch terrain with a lot of beautifully painted minis… it just look perfect!
-
Great looking game. Sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing.
Gamer Mac: Davy Crockett and other assorted Gringo treasure-hunters...
Suffice to say, Davy Crockett and co met a fast and sticky end at the hands of Driscoles' Presidiales.
Gamer Mac, I think I can speak for all the Texans here and say we're slightly disappointed with this turnout. ;)
-
:-*
Amazing board and mini's!
Too bad, though, about the bald guy who kept getting in all the photos...
;)
-
Great terrain Malamute ! very well done ;D
-
El Zorro would just like to say that he enjoyed this latest round of his ongoing game with the Alcalde very much, and hopes to be able to humiliate him in similar fashion next year... ;)
It was a very enjoyable, fast and furious game, and in all honesty, I was very taken with the whole set up. I can only assume that the ghost of Tyrone Power was watching over my shoulder on friday, as I don't think I missed a roll for the whole game, and managed a very cinematic and satisfying conclusion.
Full marks to Malamute, and all involved with Boothill Miniatures for presenting such a wonderful game.

I beg to differ ;)
Although Captain Bloods description of things appears to be very accurate from the blind, can’t hit the side of a barn, Mexican side of things.
I perceived things a little differently from my side.

The yanks went charging into the square in typical American style all gun blazing managing to put down a couple of the Mexican soldiers with some expert marksmenship, even though their coloured gentleman was gunned down before firing a shot.
While a couple of my brave men occupied the remaining Mexican Davy led his last two men towards the chest of money.
Entrance of Zoro
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/4/1912_26_10_09_5_28_56_2.JPG)
Only for some sneaky masked Mexican guy to ride up and steal the chest from right under our nose.
The same cowardly masked Mexican also lead a second squad of Mexican soldiers right to my brave yanks and then ran away.

Out numbered my brave men were cut down. With Davy Crocket in a last stand surrounded on all sides before he to was cut down
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/4/1912_26_10_09_5_34_11_4.JPG)
So the Yanks did put up a good show.
-
:)
Again Colin - lovely photos.
Damned handy that you were on the other side of the table from me in these games to provide a different angle on events! :D
-
Great pictures guys.
In defence of Gamer Mac he did play the Americans with hearty bravery, his incredibly bad die rolls saw to it this bravery was terminal! ;)
As for me, my stout hearted characters shot anything that moved from a balcony and hid everytime someone had the cheek to shoot back!
-
I seem to remember you having the Governor shoot his own daughter at one point too... ;D
And at least Mac's performance was historically accurate, what with Crockett going down fighting under a pile of feelthy Mexicans!
-
Too bad, though, about the bald guy who kept getting in all the photos...
;)
Yeah, who is that bald bloke lol
Ya know, looking at the table all set up I have decided its not big enough!
So its back to making more adobe in time for BLAM2010. :D
-
So the Yanks did put up a good show.
Alright then, that's certainly more acceptable. Good effort and way to do us proud with your last stand! Can't do much about those sneaky treasure stealing masked men. :)
-
Great game that I was honoured to be a part of but it would have helped if my Vaqueros had not had to start in the adjoining state - took forever to get near the action.
Rudi, the webshop is up and running at www.boothillminiatures.co.uk

Yeah, yeah, you were just playing chicken and not wanting to get involved in the action... ;)

Very lovely indeed.
It looks like a very good game, I wish I was there!
These things makes you spend lots for a new period.
Very nice figures, superb painting and terrain, what else does anyone want?
My only criticism, the lady looks more like grandmother/old nunny than governor's daughter, so, until Malamute release her in all her beauty, I suggest using this figure:

"Governor's daughter by Black Scorpion"

Correct me if I am wrong but I *think* that was the whole point... :)

Yes it was a bit of a joke on the day as the figure does resemble an older lady. Thanks for the link to the Black Scorpion Lady. She is lovely but the dress is too early. The Perry figure we used is pretty spot on for a Mexican/Spanish catholic lady of the 1820's/1830s.Shame she's an old hag lol
Rest assured I will be doing some civilians soon and a couple of damsels will be forthcoming. Claudia Cardinale here we come... ;D :-*

Salma Hayek, now we're talking :D

Excellent work Mal. Beautiful table.

WOW!!!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Your table and figures look absolutely fantastic Malamute!!!! :o :o :o :o :o

Excellent report, fantastic toys 'n' terrain, many thanks for sharing.
With all due respect to Signorina Cardinale, wouldn't Senhoritas Hayek and Cruz make better period models ?????
http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/still/bandidas_04.jpg :-*
By the way there's a lovely 'governor's daughter' type in the villager set from Westwind's Headless Horseman range.
-
:-* Claudia could have me if she played her cards right, the other two are a bit skinny for my taste ;D
-
lol

That pyramid would make an interesting mental picture......

Next year, when there are more factions and the town is even bigger. :D
-
what other factions are you going to be adding to this range?

Next year, when there are more factions and the town is even bigger. :D
Including Claudia C and friends!

Including Claudia C and friends!
Ha, ha, yes ladies will be forthcoming. ;)
Other factions will include more Texian adventurers including James Bowie, some more Mexican/Texian personalities and then the start of the Mexican army with Infantry, Cazadores(Sharpshooters/light infantry) and regular cavalry.

Watchd the film again, you also need a little boy soldier and what seems his dad watching Davy Crockett playing the violin ;) Love that tune
-
Sweet! I have been doing some readin up on Mexican-american war and am thinking i would like to do some fillerbusting in old Californa.
Kerny and kit carson and John Freemont had a pretty intresting fight of it. Mostly local gurrels armed with swords and lances. Will you be makeing amrican inf and dragoons? To be used as US deserers to Texes/texian regulers and of course US forces dearing the MAW

Yes, a pack of US infantry as deserters, but not sure about dragoons, maybe if the demand is strong for them.

Well I would like them because they could pull triple duty, fighting against the seminoles in the 2nd war with them, the MAW, Texan war of indapancenc, the Texans contuse border skirmishes with mexico and Comanche raiders. and not to forget as opponents of ever ones masked hero.

Where's my time machine!!! I want to go! Now! :o :-* :-*
