Title: A Ruritanian Quote worth of repeat
Post by: zbyshko on April 07, 2007, 10:20:33 AM
When i was younger (measure in decades   ) i saw the movie The Prisoner of Zenda but was too young to recall anything; same applies to an Illustrated Classics (or some such) comic book version.  but i have recenttly started reading the novel.

in doing so i have come across i quot i wish to share, for simple enjoyment's sake, but it could be useful for those here who need to create a villian or rogue of some sort for the next scenario:

Quote
For my part, if a man must needs be a knave, I would have him a debonair knave, and I liked Rupert Hentzau better than his long-faced, close-eyed companions.  It makes your sin no worse, as I concieve, to do it a la mode and stylishly.

- Anthony Hope The Prisoner of Zenda

it is entirely up to the desire and vocal skill of the player is he wishes to sound like Douglas Fairbanks Jr. during the action.  but, hell, why not!

After reading that, you should read 'Royal Flash' by George MacDonald Fraser. If you haven't already.

That is so true, and yet I know that if the phrase 'a la mode' had not come to mean 'with ice cream', I'd only have one reason to enjoy the quote.

I prefer my sins with ice cream, generally - H
